buy a lonely planet guidebook for thailand. or thailands islands. get out of bangers (bangkok) as soon as you can. theres nothing usefull there unless you like to throw away money and every other part of the country is far more beautiful.

If you can ride a scooter it's quite an economical and easy way to get around ....hire one, they ain't expensive, just drive carefully on the left hand side of the road (British style...lol!)....

.....since there are so many places that hire scooters to tourists competition is high...

I like pattaya ! it blows the doors off of overpriced phuket.
a night with a super hot 19yrs old thai girl will cost u 1500 baht or $45 us dollars.
if your going to party pattaya is the spot. I would stay clear of any thai guy that offers you weed -there is a long standing scam where the dealers and cops work together.
after you buy- they arrest you- make u pay a bribe -and then split it
travel to cambodia if you want to smoke much better ganja scene. score a happy pizza in siem reip and check out ankor wat temples
gypsy gave the best advice to score -find and expat that lives there -much better plan.

Yeah Pattaya is more fun than Phuket.....and cheaper too...great night-life and loaded with poon-tang (if that's what you are after)....

...if you just show up with a back-pack and cruise the small Soi's (alleys) off the main drag there are alot of OK budget hotels/guest houses where you could get a room for about $10 a night with aircon/fan...

...Plus Pattaya is only a couple of hours by road from Bangkok and many buses go there......even a taxi from Bangkok will only set you back $50 or so.....

pattaya has it all ! as a single man there is nothing in the the world that compares. make sure to vist SOI 6 . also besides being the best priced tourist spot its one of the easiest to navagate its like 10 cents to go from one end of town to the other,try that it phuket it will cost you $10 . I am scared shit to ride a motorbike -too many crazy/drunk drivers there
