best bc outdoor strains to grow at 50n

i know its been asked but not much input: any suggestions on using coco in swamps? I was thinkiing 2 part coco brick, 1 part EWC , 1 part poo compost, and then nitrogen , potassium, and phosphorus guanos mixed in for flowering boost. no smelly animal byproducts = no curious critters ripping up crops. dunno really, want to stay away from chem nutes dont like using heavy harvest, stuff doesnt flush well.

sounds like a sound plan man. I saw some beautiful c-weed done in coco, and my timewarp done in the coco turned out amazing too. Definetly helps to give you a better burning product in the fall.

You need to add a few tbsp of dolo lime per gal of coco or you will have cal/mag problems.

I have used coco for the last two seasons.. it works great for swamp tubes but if your growing in containers it dries out extremely fast and should be treated like hydro. Coco on drippers with liquid nutes kills it...

It really helps to put it out in the winter so it can absorb rain and expand on its own, breaking it up and expanding it by hand is a huge pain in the ass.

Looks good out in Maine! For the "best" outdoor strain at low latitiudes assumming southern ontario or b.c to go with a good HP since its early flowering times and full nature allowing for good smoke even if harvested early as well as a affy if you have the climate for them id stay away from any rudyx or "early strains" for the most part unless climate is an issue while there are a few gems most are just a rudi cross forming rudi like buds with tiny calyxes and lots of leaf

for seeds i've found alot of Deep Chunk crosses do very well Outdoors in BC... especially when crossed with faster plants like C99, blowfish, KK's SC, SPG (Breeder Steve's cut, it has autoflower traits which help), cheese, or any other 6-8 week clone/seed plant.

DC gives the crosses a real hardyness (thick stems and leaves), and it's a very fast IBL to begin with (it looks done by about 45-50 days [pistil wise] but if you are growing pure DC for headstash I [& most others] like to leave it until about 60 days to get the calyxes to swell up a bit more and to get the trichomes to amber up) and it adds a nice bit of afghani skunkyness to most DC crosses.

G.Gold is the best OD I've smoked/grown from seed, there were some phenos with some serious RKS in them, but the other phenos weren't bad either, just nothing to write home about. Plus it finishes automatically by mid September, I wish i knew where to get more seeds, I only have maybe 5 which i plan to plant next yr for a complete seedrun (i hope I can find 10-15 more by then as 5 seeds isn't a very good amount to breed from, especially because I'd like to try and isolate the RKS phenos.. They also finish no taller than 2.5-3' so they're nice and stealthy, and essentially just grow into one cola. It's def the best out of all the auto plants by far.

Over the years trying to grow and fully finish strains in BC I've learned that you HAVE to get your plants in an area that gets at LEAST 6-8 hrs (or more preferably full sun all day long) of full sun a day in order for them to flower quickly/properly in late July-early August, which is vital to having them finish before it's too late/wet/cold. From what I've seen in my OD grows, and local friend's OD grows this has been the most important factor. well over 50% of the OD grows my friend's try dont dtart flowering until way too late, and all they end up with is bud rot or trim for hash makin'.

It seems like non-auto MJ plants need to have as much direct sun during early summer as possible in order to start flowering in time for them 2 finish, the less direct sunlight in june/july the longer it takes for them to get flowering.

So with all that being said I think the best way to ensure your plants finish (if they aren't an auto or made for a short season/low light) is to veg and prune them outside (or do some indoor veg for extra girth/size) from late spring until mid July, then force flower them using various black out methods (sheds, tarps, greenhouses, garages, barns, a layer or 2 of that black breathable weed matting, etc etc, just make sure that you leave enough room/venting for the plants to breath so you dont get Powdery Mildew) for at least 12 hrs a night (or you can bring them into your dark area around 6-7 pm [just count 12 hrs back from your local sunrise time] then bring them back outside before you go to bed or after it's dark, as long as it's dark for around 12 hrs it doesn't matter which method you use) until early August and then just let them go naturally from there, you should be able to finish an 8 week strain by mid Sept, or a sativa by late Sept or early Oct.

Of course the above methods aren't going to be feasible for everyone's OD grows, but if u have daily access it's the best and surefire way to get pretty much any strain to finish properely in our climate/zones. It can be a bit of work lugging plants around, but a dolly or little wagon/mini trailer will make short and easy work of it.

Good luck next spring fellow BC growers, and GL to rest of you in this great country of ours!

fwiw,
I happen to know the guerilla gold will be @ seedbay/bou within a couple of weeks... plenty of time to get them in dirt and ready for the next OD sesh.

I think I may do a few OD plants this year.

Might have to look up Breeder Brads strains.

I have been recommended nordic bred strains by esbe (trying Arne this year hopefully I get a good lady from my seedlings!) as well as hollands hope, frisian dew, mandala #1.

I just had one thought though, colour kicks ass and makes for a beautiful plant but strains with a lot of purple in them in our cold late summer and fall nights make for terrible guerilla grows... when everything is yellow and orange, purple shows up to a trained eye like a pot of gold!

Great News Chimera! thanks for chiming in and letting us know GG is going to be avaliable on Seedbay, this is great news for all of the OD growers in and around the 50ish lat. GG is a perfect no brainer OD strain. It's probly the only auto strain that can actually give you bud worth keeping.

In fact the end product even holds it's own or is better (the right phenos of course) than alot of the normal seeds I've popped over the yrs. It just doesn't yeild like the normal seed plants as it only remains in a vegitative state for so long before it flowers...

Anywho, if your not growing for mersh (unless u have alot of seeds), GG is the OD strain 4 you. It's potent, tasty (some very tasty/smelly indeed), easy (little if any training/pruning, less feeding/smaller plots, less camoflauge), and you don't have to wait until October for your smokables.

I have grown out 2,3,and 5...
All seem to be equally mold resistant, and trust me,I live in perhaps the toughest place on earth to combat mold.
#2 finished a touch earlier, but with smaller yeilds, same with #5.I have found #3 to be the best of the GG line in the yield, potency and resistance. Most will be done by sept 5th or so at 46L and many by the first of sept.

Yeah: look to the indoors, or pray for a great (hot) summer. AB's 2010 summer sucked hard, and it gave me a bunk harvest. I'm currently thinking Iranian autoflowers for an outdoor SOG for next time.
