What's new

when to lollipop

i have read some conflicting things......i assume shortly after the stretch is complete (which i assume is two weeks, but i have multiple strains, so who knows)

but i have also heard to do this asap..or as soon as a canopy forms.....any help?

Try different methods and see which works best. I don't think it's rocket science, but I'm on my first SOG so what do I know. I do know that I trimmed some lower growth on mine around 14 days, and a decent amount of new lower growth replaced some of what I'd cut. I had another week of stretch after that, but not nearly as much as the first two weeks. I'd wait until flowers are starting to get most of the plant's energy before trimming.

I like to take the super low stuff off right when I switch them to 12/12, then I watch them through the stretch, and take off anything that looks like it's not going to produce.

Yeah, there's a point at which the buds don't get any weight on them, you will quickly learn this area and just pluck whatever is down low. I do a combo of lollipoping and defoliation; above the 'weight point' i pluck all fans, below the 'weight point' i leave all fans and pluck all buds/shoots. That way I'm getting the most intense light on the bud mass, but the fans are there to catch leftover light that makes it through.

That's an interesting method kc. I assume you're growing SOG? Want to tell us your yields per plant and g/w and describe your grow (light size & distance, canopy size, plants PSF, containers/medium, hydro method, veg time/method, plant height at start of 12/12, end of stretch, and harvest, and anything else you think matters)? It's hard to find info on SOGs.
