I am getting ready to purchase 2 a/c units for my 12'x24' shed was going to go with 2 24,000btu window units

Then I spotted these

I have had window units before, but never any experience with mini splits. Anyone with any experience that has used or set these up would be a great help.

Just wanted to ask before I drop 1-2k.

Thanks, SP

you do know that the one on your ebay link isnt everything you need.. you still need the condenser thats out side or whatever.. thats just the part you would put in your room.

Mini splits are the best investment for your money. They're silent, efficient, reliable, easy on the electric bill, no air exchange so no odor problems... they're perfect. All quality brands like Mitsubishi, Sanyo, LG, etc., are built to run for years, however, the installation is much more involved than a window unit. There are heavy gauge wires to run, inside and out, and I had to buy a vacuum pump to install the refrigerant lines.

Hey DD thanks for the info, but I have already put the order in for the window units. If I had the extra 2-3k then I would have got the 4 ton mini that Bob had recommended. I can definitely see the benefits. Thanks again and good growing. SP

you also need a vaccuum pump and a vaccuum guage and a set of refrigeration manifold. you cant just guess that you are at the correct level. R410 is a very picky refrigerant and you have to be exact with it, being sloppy will guarantee system failure and poor cooling efficiency.

those linsesets are flared and not sealed or under vaccuum. YOU MUST VAC the lines down to at least 500microns before u start the compressor and open the service valves on the condensor unit.

Mini spilts are OK, but they lack air flow. With a tiny coil and barely no airflow the unit has to work 4X as hard as a conventional airhandler with a "A" coil. With a standard air to air split, airhandler combo each ton of cooling requires 400cfm of air to be sucked through the coil in order to work properly and efficiently. Water cooled heat exchangers are wicked and draw literally no power. A true air to air split, with an air handler is the best option.

I guess for 1-2 lights they work, but for anything larger you should go with what works best and efficiently. Most mini splits stop working at -10C or if you got a heatpump that uses inverter technology -15 C. Air to air splits can work in -30C as long as u have a compressor heater and condensor fan cycling switch
