Keeping Air cooled lights clean on the inside?

How do you keep air-cooled lights clean from dust and dirt? I would think a filter would slow the air speed an lower the afectiveness of the cooling.

I bought my fan based on the size of my filter and then added an air cooled hood later when I started using a 1000w HPS. Are you not running any filter now or is it separate from your light? If you have the room you could use furnace filters and a cardboard box to build a fairly high flow filter. Put filters on each end of the box and the pipe on the side.

Reading the latest Rosebud mag, I see a filter that comes in 4, 6, and 8 inch, meant specifically for the purpose you need them for. Says it won't impede airflow a bit. Might be a bit more pricey than you want to pay though. :)

Yeah, my light gets filthy on the inside of the glass. I'm in between grows now and just today I took the lamp down, removed the glass and cleaned it thoroughly. Somehow the inside was much dirtier than the outside.

BudGood i saw those and those were expensive i think. i'd like to get the name again so i can look them back up because mine are super dirty. i have not felt like trying to clean them with plants below them i'd like to prevent that.

I have used foam filters for motorcycles before, and they worked pretty good. Right now I am trying a 60micron flat piece of foam filter. It was 12 dollars and comes in a 12x24 size. It is made my UNI. Also Horti-control has a thing called the shrom? or shroom? shit idk, but it is basically a foam motorcycle filter that is designed for a air cooled hood. They claim 0 air flow reduction..... Very cool, but for over $100 I don't have a need for it.

Toohighmf knows the guy that owns horti-control im pretty sure, Maybe I will hit him up and see if I can put one to the test.

yeah that is what i thought $110 before shipping for a 8". damn i understand our industry generates good money so they charge us more but damn this thing is just not worth that price IMO. i will use a few stockings before i pay that kind of money. actually i'll give that a try in a few weeks when i break my room down to clean it between cycles!

With a good filter, I've barely noticed any dirt or dust on the inside of air-cooled lights, mainly dirty outside, which I clean with a damp cloth with a few drops of vinegar on it, while lights are off.

Peace

I use nylon leggings on the end of my cool tube works like a charm. Only thing is you gotta watch out for air flow restriction cause after a grow or two there's so much dirt, lint, etc caught up in it the fan has a harder time cooling my light and exhausting the cab. Change it every grow and you're good

$130 my ass lol... I like the paint strainer idea. Right now I use nothing and just clean it between runs they get pretty dirty near the end.

I don't get how that thing would work if I use it on a closed circuit and it starts outside the room? I will have a big black filter poking out my window?

This is the stuff I use, It is 12x24 and is 60micron. The green one is finer like 30 micron I think.

Or an airfilter for a 03-? suzuki rmz 250-450 fit perfect on my 6" hood..... Like 30 dollars for a good one... Or like 15 for a ready filter, the ready filter is pre oiled though so it leaves some sticky residue on the hood... I personally like my flat filter more because it is less restrictive.

Yeah I think I am going to stick an 8" bug filter from eco, it comes with a carbon screen that is basically a fine filter, comes in black so it helps for light leaks as well. Just going to set it up with an 8" no hub clamp that will make it easy to take off and on and clean it every 4-8 weeks or so.

I wouldn't use it for your situation, it's meant for indoor use.

As far as the price, it is a bit out of hand, I agree. Just passing along the info to the OP, as it's exactly what he's looking for.

Wow, that is actually pretty damn awesome, I might have to buy a couple sheets of that and make my own DIY Dust Shrooms!

Yup, It works pretty damn good. I just take some big zip ties and put the filter over the opening and it really doesn't cause much resistance. I have only been using it for a few weeks but I like it. It is cool because you can wash it with soap and water to clean it out, and if you want to catch more particulates you can spray it with foam filter oil.

Like I said before a foam filter for a suzuki dirtbike fit PERFECT over the 6" opening. They are like 30 dollars for a good filter.
