im thinking you can keep your 75 dollar 250hps hortilux bulbs, better to just buy the cheapo ones for like 12 dollars and through in a few 6400 k cfls, same dam thing just cheaper. one little blue cfl in my former grow totally perked up the whole lot of hoes, of course i may be wrong but paying all that money for a bulb thats put peak lumens are in green yes green doesnt seem like is that special but i havent done a side by side, so what do i know.

i too would like this answer horti has multiple mh and hps bulbs. as we all know spectrum is whats important so spectrum wise for veg 1k mh the blues are the way to go? and for flower hps the super hps or just hps only?

Lazyman~ have you run the Horti BLUE's as of yet?

I'm giving it a shot right now due to the PAR curve, but was curious if you had any personal notes...??? Thanks in advance!

Hortilux Daylight blue MH for veg, or for veg and flower (it puts out more red than their Super HPS!) Daylight blue MH is pretty much my favorite lamp, but they don't last more than a month or two on digis for me.

hey thanks for the reply so the blue mh is even better then the super hps? and whats the loss or negative about the blue mh? im just surprised if blue mh is better for both veg and flower why is the super hps not discontinue if the blue mh is better in both veg n flower spectrum. and if the blue mh were not on digital ballast how long do they last? 1 month seems short oh well veg 1 month 24 hrs. i think im getting galaxy ballast i want reliable and want to use horti

also i was reading somewhere that if i use both mh and hps at same time it can be a benefit so if theirs no harm which bulbs should i setup up? you know my setup 4k in flower 2k in veg btw am i going to run ac through the ducting then the air cooled lights or inline fan fresh air ducting through air cooled lights and exhausted with a vortex.

and i remember you said no fresh air for room but i still exhaust every couple times per min? or how would i get fresh air ? when co2 is added does the room need to be 85f? or 75f

About 1000 watt HPS and electronic ballasts: There is a lamp which is specifically designed for electronic ballasts, and it actually has a specific electronic ballast designed for it: The Philips GreenPower 400V EL Double ended with the GreenVision Philips electronics running at 100 kHz+. (source - sorry, it's not available from Philips in the US). Several horticultural luminary manufacturers make luminaries for them, such as this GAVITA Pro 1000. It is used by the thousands on single locations in Dutch greenhouses being the most effective lamp. GAVITA Holland brings it as a 240V model.

It only runs the Philips EL lamps and GAVITA's own EL single ended lamps.

This is what the a double ended lamp looks like:

The reason why bulbs fail is mostly by a bent wireframe of acoustic resonance. You can easily check that yourself by looking at the arc in your arc tube. It should be straight and stable around the electrodes. Acoustic resonance looks like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3yhGnodrXk - here due to the low frequency of the quantum ballast.

There are so many factors why some lamps fail on certain ballasts and some don't that manufacturers come with their own lamps. It has a lot to do with resonance, standing waves, heat production and that all of course at a certain ballast frequency. Now the most electronic ballasts work at 35-40 kHz, some go a bit higher to 70-80 kHz (such as the Lumatek dimmable). In this case lighting gear manufacturer Philips comes with an integrated package and guarantees the lamp on this ballast. Unfortunately only for professional 400V use, but GAVITA Holland has the 240V luminary models that power the 400V lamps.

edit: It's a bit late, sorry for bumping!

I like my Plantmax HPS which I've ran into a few folks buying anywhere from 400w-100w and they were old Horti users saying they couldn't believe how much money they wasted cuz they got the same results with the Plantmax bulbs.. Something to think about, check the spectrum chart it's just like a Super HPS...

What was wrong with it?

FWIW, I've been testing a pair of Plantmax 400HPS lamps for the last 4-6 weeks in veg. The most vigorous growth I've seen to date. I kid you not. Lumen-wise, as I lack access to a Quantum meter, they put out more light than any other 400HPS lamp I've tested (GE, Sylvania/Grolux/Plantstar, Philips).

Like I said I LOVE mine! I started with a generic 400w HPS that came with my first lighting kit and upgraded it to the Plantmax and saw a huge increase in vigor and could see the extra blue in it. I now rock 2 600w Plantmax HPS bulbs and they kick ass I highly suggest any Hortilux user wanting to go digital to use Plantmax. I ran 400 in a digi ballast for 3 runs and my new setup is 2 digi 600s and I've gotten 1 run out of them so far and since they are cheap after 2 runs it's time for new ones or every run if you have money to blow...

I am looking to replace a Lumatek 1000w hps after less than 2 months of use. It may have been killed by a hot restart since the power company was in the area. Worked great prior so will try another one. I suppose I need to invest in a UPS source to protect the bulbs.
