Need Opinions Quick - Plants Dying

O

OZZ

I have been an outdoor person using cheap MG soil successfully. I figured I'd try my hand at indoor, so I put together LC's mix and put some plants in it. These were originally clones in another mix doing OK. Once they hit this they took a turn for the worst and I don't know what is wrong with them. They have green veins, yellow leaves. They are very light green and unhealthy looking. New growth tips are yellow so they might be burning? Also very droopy.

My soil mix is 5 parts peat moss, 3 parts perlite, 2 parts worm casting with 2 tablespoons per gallon of mix. The lime I used was dolomite but was PELETIZED. It is Epsoma garden lime. I tried breaking it up with a hammer. This mix was not allowed to cook. Temps have been on the low side (65ish near roots), but other than that enviorment seems fine. They were fed with kelp twice but they are pretty much stunted and dying. Their roots were very poor upon initital transplant. I can't get a pH tester right now, but my water is strictly rain/lake water with a pH of around 6.4. Not sure if this is a combo of a huge burn and nutrient lock out or what. pH too high or too low? Maybe the lime isn't balancing the mix? Ideas? Quick fixes before these things die.

Looks like a lockout. May be due to pH imbalance bro. I'd try flushing as much as possible since MG is hot and you yourself stated the root system was poor to begin with. Try repotting in neutral mix and then repot into MG when their healthy.

They aren't in MG. They were and then were transplanted into LC's mix.

There's no reason for the iron deficiency you're experiencing in pic two other then the plant is locked out. I think its pH bro. Get some pH test strips from the pet store. In the mean time just flush with pH stable water till you see lots of runoff. At least 3 times the pot size. You can also try a 1/4 strength foliar feed with some micro. Should help the iron deficiency that is showing.

I think SDG is right about everything. Also, the pots look too large to me. Makes it too hard to water accurately since you don't know the extent of the root growth. Flushing and foliar feeding micro nutes will probably improve things, but I'd repot into smaller pots with a less hot mix for faster recovery.

You need to feed them ! You mix you listed has just worm castings and lime for food . Kelp is a great additive but you need food in that mix or a liquid mix .
Stalks are purple and lower leaves are yellowing and getting dead spots on them you need more food in your mix ! I would suggest a bloom shot for them just to get there p levels up for root growth . :2cents:

oh and your right on the lime it takes @3 months for the pellets to break down ! powdered is better

The thing is if you notice the leaves are curling sideways and have yellow/burnt new growth tips. I flushed 2 yesterday and they seem to be perking up. My mix does only have 20-25% worm castings for food right now but the roots on these plants were pretty horrible from the Miracle Grow mix they were in prior. Going to flush and foliar feed with kelp for a few days and see if they can get some healthy growth going.

They aren't healthy yet, but are on the way to recovery. I am not new to this so I should have known better. I took a long hiatus and jumped back in avoiding the hydro store. I used shit MG time-release knowing full well what it does. My conclusion is it fried my root system. I quickly went back to organic and they continued to decline. A good flush and some foliar feed with kelp and they all seem to be on the verge of being well. Thanks for your responses. AVOID MG! I've had decent success using their wet control mixture outdoors, other than that... you can do better.

I think ph too low

you dont seem to have any immediate buffering because youre using pelletized instead of powdered lime. also the epsoma is coated in clay so its not very strong.

I think it'll kick in after a couple weeks but maybe next time use powdered dolomite and pelletized so you have immediate and long term buffering.

in the mean time maybe you can bring the ph up with lime or oyster shell water? or top dress and water in? try some high ph, high ppm spring water?

Give your babies some House&Garden Root Excelurator to help grow new roots. It's pricey, but it works. You only need 1.1ml/Gal. I have an AK-47 clone that took a turn for the worse. It was damn near dead. Most of the leaves were dried up and crinkly, with shrinking patches of green spots. I gave her some RootExceluratorafter, and after a few days, I noticed a significant improvement. I also sprayed her down with some Magic Green, also from House&Garden. I've only used these two products from H&G and I'm impressed as to how fast they work.

No cooking the mix?

No cooking the mix?

You are having PH issues from your potting mix composting and settling in the pot that also has your roots in it, locking out nutes. The two or three weeks that LC's mix sits is vital for microbial action that prepare your dirt for new plants. Maybe mix it 50/50 with reg. potting soil(not MG) for tender babies. SDG is on point, flush, foliar with very light nutes and sit back and enjoy the recovery. Be patient, they will pull through. :comfort:

Oh yeah, flushing really leeches out Mag. so keep that in mind!
