Grow tent or DYI Box...

F

feral

It's the only tent I have ever used but yes I feel it will last a long time as long as I take care of it. The material is extremely thick and heavy duty. And the frame is solid steel. Everything seems well made. There are a few light leaks I am having to patch with tape though, but I still would buy one again.

Thanks for the input :tiphat:

So, Ive been looking around the web, and Ive come across this little setup. Cheaper than the one from HTG, but seems like it comes with only the shit I need.

http://www.atlantishydroponics.com/...Complete-with-Emily's-Garden-2'-x-2'-x-4'.asp

I was thinking about getting a 400 or 600 watt light kit with it as well, or just buying one from my local hydro store. Anyone ever used them? I havent seen much feedback on them.

@Scurred: You make a good case for the enviroment as well as my power bill. I just dont want to go 400 and regret it if I dont get the yields that I SHOULD, but then again, this is for personal so I dunno. You may just be right though. Ive got some time, so Ive got some thinking to do on that one. Your help in this has been much appreciated man. I cant give you anymore rep though. lol. I tried.

@Capital G: What company was it from? I want to make sure I dont order from them if I do it all piece by piece. lol.

If you are handy with building and electrical matters, this is a no brainer, DIY. This is by far your cheapest method, and you can build it to fit your specs exactly.
However, if you are not the handiest, and are not keen on electrical work, get the TENT.

McLabia ..That tent is 2 ft square, the biggest lamp you could use in there is a 270 ..... a 400 will burn the shit out the plants unless you have some serious extraction, which will be expensive

I grew in a space that size and even vertical lighting only worked with a high rate of air flow ..... believe me you'll fight the heat from the start IMHO

Yo GM, how's your HPS set up?

*tilts head and realizes youre right* Logic...>.< Bastard whyd you have to use it!

So I guess Im going with a bigger tent. I think that Ill end up buying pieces separately. The chick that works at my local hydrostore is pricing things out for me, and told me that shell hook me up. ^_^

So, for a 400 or 600 watt lamp, I should go for the 3x3 with the 5 foot vert right? While its outside, that makes the heat as well as the cold a bit harder to control. I dont wanna spend all this money just to burn the shit outta my plants. Thanks for the heads up Bush Dr.

Still horizontal Dad. Just because I threw it up quick at my bro's new house. We still haven't fired it up since his moving. We still need to invest in some equipt. yet. If I ever get my money???....
...or when he gets his taxes (his money is soooo tight since buying the house) we will finish up. Once I split into two rooms, I will go vert for flower, no doubt.

McLabia, coax a dress off of one of your chubbies.

Use the arm holes for intake and exhaust, drop your HPS in through the neck hole.

Cobble up a frame out of PVC and you're good to go.

Wash the muumuu first, you don't want your nugs smelling like fried chicken and moon pie sweat.......

HEhe^^ I have a Jardin dr60 tent which is 2x2', you want a dr 80(3x3') I think. It is very sturdy and can be taken down in minutes.

I would go with a Jardin as the quality is not a question as it is with some others. As was said, if you go over 400 watts you will have to deal with a lot of heat, not that if cannot be done.

McLabia - a 3 x 3ft will be fine for a 400, I use the 4 x 4ft for my 600's with a 800m3/hr fan

Get it 6 ft or as tall as you can manage, the larger space helps keep things cool and when you get a sativa you won't be stuck

You'll need a 4" fan/filter able to take 250+ m3/hr to give adequate ventilation

BTW Jorge Cervantes puts good ventilation as the second most important determining the potency after genetics

Not sure if this will help or not but I have done both. At different times and different locations, so I am not sure if the info will be that helpful.

I did cab grows in AZ back in 05', started with turning my master bath shower into a cab for my first grow and it turned out really good, at least I thought. Then decided to make a veg cab 4'x4'x4' for the garage. You can imagine how hot it got in my garage venting the cab and having a/c in it, but it worked. Then got rid of my shower cab for a 4'x4'x6' flower box. So now add a ton more heat. Unfortunately I only had it going for a month and a half before we moved to the northwest. Never got to dial it in all the way. Here are some pics of all three.....

The last one is my first grow, if I remember right it was around 2.5-3 ounces. Not bad when all you can get in AZ is stems and seeds. :)

Here is the tent I have been using for the past year and a half, I didn't have great results because in the northwest it tends to get a little chilly. Had a 1000w in it and it could of handled 2. I had the tent in my shed and the temps would fluctuate about 30+ degrees in the winter. So that is why I got rid of the tent and revamping the shed, you can take a look at that here...

This was a 76"x76"x76" tent and it did the job really well.

The smaller one on the right would probably be PERFECT for me. Especially if it had casters on it. You wouldnt happen to have the plans for that would you? I dig the shit outta the shelf up top too. Thats a great place for my nutes/water/supplies for growing.

Basically built them both the same. I don't have pics of the smaller one being built but the big one is kinda documented. Here are some pics...

It took a day to build and maybe $75-$100 in materials I think. That was like 6 stoner years ago, so it feels like 25 :)

Yeah...you just sold me on building my own. That shit is CLEAN. How was the ventilation on it? You and I need to talk. I want dimensions and sizes of the wood. haha. That is what I want to build. On casters that will be amazing in my garage.

Thanks for the kind words guys. To be honest, They were built on a whim. Wanted, nay...., needed more space, so just went for it. Had only been growing 6 months at this time. Man...seems forever ago.
