What up my chronic lovin peeps?:dance013:

i'm thinking about mixing/switching in some MH lighting into my flowering period. right now im rockin 1000watt HPS but have switchable ballasts. My current strains finish in 7 weeks. what weeks do you guys think i should go hps and what weeks MH? Should i switch em every week or maybe do the first few MH and finish HPS? when i switch from MH to HPS do i have to raise my hood and slowly work it down for several days? i know that i have to keep the HPS hood higher but i guess what I'm asking is, is their adjustment period for the plants when switching?

Don't alternate between hps and mh during flower. If your can add the mh to the hps it will give you a fuller spectrum. If you can only run one during flower, only run the hps.

thx for the quick opinion Cush. i have always just done hps and i guess what made me curious is that i recently was in a situation where i had to start my first 3 weeks under a MH and they looked a little more full then usual. shortly afterwards i ran into a video where a guy did a direct comparison. the end result was he had a bigger crop under the hps but the buds under the MH were a little more filled in and thicker.

however i think you answered the adjustment question though

Hmm....I've never started flower under just mh. I have a 3kw flower room with 2kw of hps and 1kw mh and am really liking my results. I'd think that the spectrum of the hps would help bud set start quicker than an mh under 12/12 but you can't argue with results.

i actually have a 3k flower as well. Do you use a light mover or something?

Yeah, I got a light rail (not the kind with the chain) that usually moves my middle (mh) light but it's unplugged right now. I have all three lights lined up in roughly a 5' x 10' area.

i too am rockin a small space. do you have air vented hoods? mine are vented because of the small space and seems like a mover would be rather difficult considering those things.

No air-vented hoods. I have a can-fan and carbon filter that handles the odor and exhausts the heat from the room.

i have both those too but i also have a side compartment/closet with 4x400 watters and a co2 burner in there(the room) as well...shit can get hot.

Use a metal halide until the stretch stops. Then switch to HPS. If you're adding a metal halide along with the HPS, keep it on from the beginning.

what if your flowering the first 3 wks under 400mh and then moving them to 1000watters(that probably cant use light movers)?

Edit: nevermind. Just re-read your post. thx bro... Think I may try the first 4 weeks under MH and last 3 under hps

I'm about to start switching to MH for the last 2 weeks...
the increase in UV radiation seems to improve density, appeal and overall quality...

I'll have some pictures for a side by side comparison after my next run.... room 1 will be hps all the way through, room 2 will be hps, and then MH for the last 2 weeks... everything else will be the same, strain, veg time, feeding, ect... I have a feeling that the buds finished under MH will be slightly more potent....but we'll see.

Run Grolux or Full Spectrum lamps, same job & better trich coverage ive found compared to just HPS alone. or go CMH! Good luck!

finishing with MH? hmm interesting. Could you send me a PM with your results when your done?

I think i may try both ways. ill try one starting MH and finishing HPS and then next one ill do the opposite.

Curious to see what the results will be.

it makes sense (to me) to have a bluer spectrum at the beginning or end of the grow because it mimics our seasons and the spectrum of the sun during them.

hmm another option i might have to try is MH at the beginning, HPS in the middle and MH at the end.

I don't know if there's enough UV coming off a MH to cause a major difference. But I did notice denser/frostier buds under a CMH vs HPS (same wattage.)

interesting indeed. i can`t wait to see what the results will be.

I`ve heard rather mixed reviews on the CMH bulbs. a buddy i know didnt like his due to the fact that most people would keep their hoods a little lower to the plants under MH lights but obviously if their in the same bulb you can`t. he clams he would rather just use a seperate 400wattMH and 600wattHPS as opposed to a 100wattCMH.
