An IBL (inbred line) is a genetically homogeneous strain that grows uniformly from seed.

A hybrid is a strain made up of two genetically unlike parents, IBL or hybrid.

When you cross two different IBL strains for the FIRST time, it is called the F1 generation. When you cross two of the same F1 hybrid (inbreed), it is called the F2 generation.

The process of selective inbreeding must continue at least until the F4 to stabilize the recurrently selected traits. When you cross two specimens of an IBL variety, you get more of the same, because an IBL is homozygous, or true breeding for particular traits.

For sure I'm no breeder, even though I got that 'Vendor' tag just basically a 'rep' for my friends at KOS...lol, but from what I understand...

Agree that an F4 is the earliest generation you can apply the IBL tag to and maybe will take up to an F6. This depends on the parents used and the breeders skills from what I've been told.

Back crossing is like taking a step of about 5 F generations at once according to some. No reason back crossing can't be used to create an IBL though. I'd rather have something that goes through F generations, if bred 'properly' and by skilled hands, opposed to a back cross created IBL.

Don't agree with that. Land race are land race and truly wild child then there's cultivars and don't see either as IBL's. For sure land race, and most likely cultivars cause how do you control rogue pollen but still definitely more selective than land race, are open pollinated...not a way to create an IBL the way I understand it.

But then again I'm clueless and a breeder will drop in eventually and clear things up...lol.

I would and do not put land race in the IBL category but that's just me.
