Best way to cut bulk amount of clones?

Hey all you growers of many many plants out there...

what is the most efficient way to cut clones in bulk?

I know aerocloners work phenomenally, but they are bulky and take up lots of room.

I am looking for something that is pretty much foolproof and most importantly, SIMPLE... i need something that is basically a SIMPLE process... I want to be able to cut 5-600 clones per two weeks, which means I want the clones to root within the two weeks...

I have used aerocloners, and I have used the water bottle icecube trays w/coco... both work well, but there HAS to be something more efficient out there....

ANYONE HAVE ANY INFORMATION, OR HAVE ANY IDEAS? PICTURES WOULD BE GREAT.

What up Weezy, its been a while. After having a ton of success and a few failures with the ez cloner replica, Ive been consistently rooting in peat pellets. The key is bottom heat.

Saturate the pellets, shake out excess, stick clone, cover tray. Dont take the dome off for two days. After two days, start aggressively taking the cover off, like until they begin to wilt. Put it back on when they droop and they will perk. After 2 days of this treatment, they wont even really need lids anymore. Fill the tray with a quarter inch of water and your good. Roots will be bustin in no time.

For your needs though, maybe utilize a small closet/tent with the adjustable shelving units and humidifier. Fuck domes, just cut stick, and put on the shelf. Use one or two 32w 4ft fluoros for each shelf. Hella clones in no time.

This guy has the best cloning operation that I've seen. To be honest, the level of complexity required to root that many clones is a bit above my head but this sublbc guy would be the first person I would ask about managing that many clones.. ie: how many times larger do I need my mom/clone shop to be than his in order to make that quota.

By the way, are you saying consistently root 500-600 clones per week/2 weeks? Certainly your mothers need to be large, with 600-1000w bulbs on each of them. Start there!

I would suggest doing what most commercial nurseries do, have your mothers however you feel comfortable growing them and then run clones into perlite beds, you can pull them and spray them and put them in any medium you desire. Is this for personal gardening or are you producing clones commercially?

hey thanks for the replies guys...

that guy in the youtube video talks like a son of a bitch! geeze oh man, he must drink a lots of coffee or eat a lot of adderall... HAHA... but he did remind me of a couple things that I have not been doing much in my previous cloning attempts...

I am basically just looking to get on a cycle, and I have about 14 mother plants right now that are about 3-4 feet tall (about the same height as the guys in the vids)... the mothers are all different strains, all of which are new strains to me... I want to clone the hell out of them all and have a bunch of each strain going... I have a fairly large operation that I already have underway, but it is still a little unorganized..

I am going to have to look into the perlite option... perlite is something I really have not worked with much other then mixing it into my coco in my pots a couple grows...

with the perlite, you are saying i make a bed of perlite, put cuts straight into it, and when they show signs of roots, then pull them out and plant? The only prob I see with that is being unable to see the roots... would i be able to see the roots by looking down?

now that i think about it, I should PROBABLY get back to some sort of aerocloning.....ac'n was pretty damn simple because it was as easy as cutting the plant, and sticking it into the neoprene insert, then on to the next cut... I really think I am going to have to hit the drawing board and come up with a new invention that will work PERFECTLY for me... I have ideas flowing through my head as we speak...

sorry for starting such a noob question, i just wanted to see if someone had some simple way of cloning.... and since starting this thread and getting my creative juices flowing, I just now (530am) think I have an invention that is going to make me millions of dollars (and millions of happy people)............. mwahaha HA HA hahhaha wooohoooooooo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFL-jEkWSV8 This guy shows perlite propagation pretty well. You just take the average rooting time each strain takes to clone, calculate when you need them against how long they take to root to see when you need to start them. I would do a ebb and flow through the perlite to decrease rooting times. Aerocloners are a pretty good option too as long as you can keep the root temps low.

Hey Wayne

here's what i do:

as soon as you cut it, it goes into water.

with razor score the stalk so you see the cambrium (white) all round, up to an inch from the cut.

into the root gel for a couple of minutes, then into the plugs.

light spray every other day

takes ten days or so for the roots to show

that's what i do and get about 95% -100%; don't lose one very often.

just one way, but it works for me... good luck man!

The perlite option that zenoonez mentioned works pretty good, only seen two people use it but it was effective for them and their growing system. I personally do straight coco in lil clear dixie cups up to 2-3hundred pure cloning session. This works best for me but if you're trying to get that many cuts for personal or for sale I would say aero/rockwool/jiffy pucks would be your best route.

I prefer jiffies or rockwool instead of aero but that's just because I like a medium for the clones in case they need to travel. Good luck with finding a system that works for you and please post your results.

I use standard horticultural trays with sphagnum moss as the clone medium. I can get 70 or more cuts into these trays.

ive had 100 % success so far by taking 16 oz solo cups (the clear ones with green tint) and putting a hole about an inch from the bottom. fill the bottom up to the hole with perlite. Fill to the top with a perlite/coco mix. Pre-wet, take the clone, pop it in cloning powder then into coco.

I dont normally use a hood or anything, just spray them down once a day, sometimes twice. maybe add a drop or two of plain water near the stem for the first week to ten days until water starts to drip out the hole. 10-14 days (mileage may vary), should be fully rooted. Not just nubs, but fully rooted and ready to go.

if you want a hood, or the clones seem to look like they might need it, i just use another solo cup upside down over the top.

And if you're wondering about using the clear cups and algae or anything. havnt seen a spot on any of them. And some im doing an experiment on, have been in there quite a long time. crazy watching the roots fill in. from there they go into one gallons, then 3 gallons to finish.

I have tried aero, bubbler, water, rez'z coco method. I have tried with domes without domes.
Several different cloning solutions.
Here's what i have learned.

Peat pellets are the most simple,You can order boxes of thousands for cheap.
I soak the peat pellets in RO water, dont PH, dont add to or adjust the water * K.I.S.S*.
I still use some clonex with each clone but I notice less clonex = more roots. Spray the plants with 3% peroxide( yes put a sprayer right on the bottle) and spray the domes as well right before they are ready to be undisturbed till roots show. I have my heat mat set to 65 F the plants root faster for me in cooler temps. Then finally I dont remove the domes till I see roots. After that I take the dome off for a few seconds everyday to let them breath till Im ready to transplant. Plants are usually rooted in 10 days , 14 for the tougher ones. I do this every two weeks with a fair amount of cuts. Heres the part that some people wont like. I NEVER put more than 18 cuts per tray ( 20 max if i have too) . Everytime I cram more plants I start to see problems. If you have a Rack then space isnt an issue.

Good luck

Ez-Cloner's and be done with it. yes other machines will get you roots but the Ez-Cloner get's you ROOTS with no fuss no muss. If your gonna be the man you gotta act like the man and that requires the proper equipment and that piece for you would be an Ez-Cloner hands down and a bottle of GreenFuse and your gold.

im with centrum. domes and peat and clonex. but cloning is about what works for you.

mrwags hit the nail on the head. if you wanna be the man act like it. after the initial investment there is no peat, domes, fungicides, rooting hormones whatever to buy which lead to a bigger profit. its also faster from what i hear.

but whatever works for you.. personnally i run a mother room of 200 smaller plants. 3-4 clones from each every 2 weeks is no stress to the plants and youll have no shortage ever. some people say to leave mothers alone for 2-4 weeks after a heavy cloning to avoid stress. more mother means less cuts and stress. come back to mrwags, do you wanna be the man? cause there is no such thing as a halfway crook.

Hey High Country...how does that sphagnum moss work out when you want to separate your clones? I did a little research on it and it doesn't look like it comes in cubes so I'm just a little curious how that sorts out...

sorry for starting such a noob question, i just wanted to see if someone had some simple way of cloning....

No doubt he talks a lot, but :dance013: He's havin' fun.

not a noob question, but TBH is there such thing as a simple way to clone 500-600 every 2 weeks? That sounds complex just in duplication and the maintenance no matter how you cut it. (pun intended.)

Bra when your talking those numbers your basically talking about a professional setup and most of those are just made . You might want to look at a few pro grows and see exactly how they set up large cloning tables to give you an idea if this is the road you need or the room you have. It's all relative bro so if you are looking for a large set up then you need space and air movement or you will wreck your home . I hope that helps peace out Headband707

This is the only pic I could find that shows large cloning tables:

ATM , Aerophonic is my preferred method !!
straight tap water , a pump and a sprayer..

In fact , Everything is going Aero .
Less water to change , not so much heat problems anymore !
Less nute waste with the flush , no particles that might clogg the sprayers.

ahh....its win,win,win
