New House...New Equipment...Need to decide!!!

Hello everyone! Just had to share the good news and ask for your expertise. I am finally moving from this crappy apartment and into a house. I get to get almost all new equipment and need a little help deciding on accessories for the tent.

As a little background, I have been using a 400w ballast in various homemade cabinets for the past 4 or 5 years. Getting good results, but want to do a little better with more dense nugs.

First, I think I will end up getting a Secret Jardin grow tent. Most likely the 4x4, but could end up being slightly different in dimension.

Second, I have already ordered a 1kw Lumatek dimmable ballast. Just need to get the lamp, which will be the Hortilux HPS "EYE".

Third, I need to decide on intake/exhaust. I was considering the Can Filter 33. I was thinking of a 6" fan to hook up to the filter as a scrubber and was trying to decide if it should also be hooked up to the 1kw air cooled hood and sent into the attic, or if I should just exhaust it into the walk-in closet and have another 6" or 8" fan hooked up directly to the hood and into the attic. Not sure which would be better...1 fan and all exhausting together would be much more economical, but temps concern me with the 1000watts. As for intake, was hoping passive intakes would work, but think I may need to get a booster fan for an intake.

Fourth, I need to figure out if my current hood(s) would be good enough. I have a cooltube and a Sun Systems hood (forget the actual name of the hood). Both are 6" air cooled and were used with a 400w magnetic ballast. Is the footprint and light distribution that much better in the Magnum XXL hoods to justify spending the $$ since I already have the other ones.

I would like to do a diy ebb monster system, but figure I will go with a RDWC to start with just for ease and $ to build.

I think that just about covers everything. All comments are welcome. :thank you:

Shopping list:

2 fans --- either 1-6" and 1-8" or 2-6"
Secret Jardin tent
1kw ballast
1kw bulb
1 filter
Stuff for the RDWC (about half, if not more, I already have on hand)

thanks for the link stonedar. From the research I've done on the individual parts needed, this is a bit cheaper + it's all from the same place vs parts from this retailer and other parts from another.

Thx again!

1. Buy the Can 33 Combo. Use the fan to scrub the air, cool the light, and yes, send that air to the attic, not another closet.

2. Doubt you will need an intake fan as long as you can have some of the flaps open on the tent for passive intake.

3. Scrap the Cool Tube and use yer Sun System hood.

Good luck!!!!

Holy guacamole Batman!!!!! Just got the 1000W ballast in and it says the current max is over 8 amps. I didn't think that it would be over 5 amps since the 600watter (according to Lumatek's website) only draws 2.7A. WOW!!!! Was not expecting that. Guess I will need to recalculate the amps for the entire system and see if it is do-able on a standard 15A house circuit. If not I will have to see how much it will cost for an electrician to come in and wire a 20 or 30A socket. The money keeps piling up. I figured it would cost about $1k to get this up and going, but it may be a bit more than that. Getting quite costly for just a personal grow.

Oh well, I'm just complaining. I know it will save money in the long run and be much better smoke than I can get off the street.

Thanks for the input Admiral Canna. I wasn't sure if a 6" fan hooked up to a filter would provide enough cooling for the 1kw light, but that will be great if it cools it enough. I forgot to tell you all that the grow will be in a rather large walk-in closet right next to an attic with a door to access the walk-in storage area of the attic. The closet does have an air vent in it and the ambient temps should be somewhere around 70-75 degrees. Since it will be in my closet, I want to minimize the noise from the fan as much as possible. Was thinking of getting a 6" sunleaves windtunnel that has 409cfm rating. Do you guys (and gals) think that will be sufficient to scrub and cool the 1kw lamp?

Ok, I couldn't help myself. I made an offer on a 6" Windtunnel off of ebay...a new one. I figured I would low-ball the seller since I don't really need it for a little over a month, and they accepted. So it should make it here right before I move. 1 more thing to cross off the list of things to get. Please let me know if you all think this was a wise decision on this fan....thx all.
