150w mh with a 250w balast? 150w mh or 150w cfl for veg?

Hi
I have a 250w electronis sonlight balast that can handle both, hps and mh. Can i use an 150w mh with that balast without damaging the lamp?

Now i have some plants that are vegging under 3 cfl's that have a total of 150w, would this metal halide lamp perform better than the cfl's for vegging?

Thanks fort he answers.

It is a debate at the moment but experience tells us the MH is better and research tells us the CFL's are better,I personally prefer CFL's as they do not generate too much heat and you can put the kids reals close.

I hope this helps,

oh and with regard to the ballast (im not too sure) but I wouldnt risk it + CFL's are the way (other than HPS.) :)

1 No, ballasts are designed for the internal resistance of the lamp

2 HID every time

I have another question about the colour temperature of the metal halide lamps. I want to buy a 250w mh that have a lightwave of 4500k. Would this be good for veeging? I have read that 5500k to 6500k woulb be better. Onpinions?

I just got a standard phillips 400w mh for my veg stage, I know the spectrum treated ones are better but how much money are you wanting to spend?
