Is it a good idea to chill reservoir with a small air pump and a bubbler ring and draw the air from outside? It gets quite cold here at winter, all the way to -22 F. I could even control temp with thermostat, but can the cold air harm roots anyway?
It might, only way to know is to try it. Seems too cold to me, but I thought about it a few years ago, but do not need it. Let us know if you try it.

My *guess* is that the air would heat up on the way by going through the mechanics of the pump. Also, the bubbles will just rise to the surface and the break releasing the air into the room without enough time to transfer the cold into the water. The specific heat of water is pretty high.
