screw the 400, get a 1k with a nice air cooled reflector.. I run the yield master supreme hoods and they cover the 4x4 real nice. There is a ton of good options though for a air cooled hood. I would go with a 6" HO can fan or something like that. I always find its better to spend a bit more money, and get the good shit, and it will always have a place in your garden somewhere.

Right now I am running 2000w in a 4x8 with 24 plants. Vegged 3 weeks and Its lookin really sweet.

:ying: For the past year, I have been running 400w MH in both veg and flower. Which I love, but I found in the 4x4 it was not enough by itself and in the 5x5 I used 2 400w. It worked nice, but not great. I would use a 600 in the 4x4 and I use a 1000w in the 5x5, with much better results. :thank you:

I love my Quantum 750... it switches between 50% 75% and full power. The 750 Bulb is a weird bird but for 200 bucks I got the ballast ,2 bulbs, 1MH and 1HPS. If and when I get another I will definitely either go with the 1000watt model or the 600w. For a hood I love the radiant with 6" flange.... vented with a 424 cfm in-line fan and filter.
In a 5x5 and I think 2 sixes would be best, so I recommend at least the 600. Its more efficient than the 400 any day.
More light = tighter bud and more weight.

A 1000 is out of the question, I try to be eco friendly... that's way more electricity than I want to consume for my small grow. I think the 600 would be a good choice for this setup, I ran a 400w in a 3x3 and was satisfied with the results, so I think I'll enjoy the 600.

Go for the digi 600w (I have a Quantum and its nice) and do a square hood with an overkill on the aircooling. I have a square setup too and my choice for a hood would be either the blockbuster or the magnum xxxxxl. I think both have 8" flange options. People might tell you that 8" is too much, but I say air cool away my friend.

A 600W lamp is good for a 3x3 or 9 sq/ft area. I would use a 600W maybe even a 1000W if you can cool it.

Keeping a 1kw cool in a 4x4 tent is easy, imo. Granted, my ambient temps are in check, but I have no trouble keeping 1 degree above ambient temp with a 215 cfm fan sucking through a filter and blowing through the hood. The tent's in a closed room, so ambient in there creeps maybe 3 degrees throughout the course of a night.
