What's new

I call it the RUNT

I started some very old seeds from my 27 year old collection. I got the first batch mixed up as I forgot to transfer the tags when re-potting. O' Well
Anyway I got 4 plants from the first 4 strains I tried. they are now 6 weeks from seed and one is the smallest fattest widest and coolest looking plant I ever had.

I call it the runt. All the others are about 24" tall, Not this lady. She is about 14" tall and a RUNT, But what a runt she is. She is as wide as tall. And she has her bottom branches coming up to met the top? All the side branches are up to the top and it is a bush not a tree. It has 13 growth spaces between the dirt and top. All the other plants that are 2 times as tall have only 12, the spaces on the runt are about 1/2" apart.

Since this plant came from very old bag seed I cannot tell you what it is but I would say it is the most pure Indica I have ever seen.

You tell me?

Here is a couple pics of the main stem and one of the bush

I had a runt once, on the left in this photo:

Never topped her, never pruned her, she just grew squat and short from the beginning. Good pheno if you ask me, only problem with this one is that she was hermaphrodite. :(

Stocky little girl you got there, Doc.

What's the difference between a tribe of smart pygmies and a women's track team?

One's a pack of cunning runts, the other's a pack of running...............aaaahhhhh never mind.......

I decided today was clone day and pulled clones off of all the plants that were popped from the 27 year old seed collection. Well what a shock I got, When it came time to do the runt. (Though she is not a runt anymore) I pulled off a few lower branches and put them into the container of solution. Then when I was ready I started to do the clones. Well That little runt smells great and is sticky all ready! :dance013:

She is going to be a stinker for sure. Short fat and full with huge leaves so I would guess a true Indica? She seems to be flowering fast and should be done in 8 or so weeks. All the others are very nice too but I am going to fill a room with the runt! I just finished a 11x12 with 4 1000w Ocho's xxxl 8" (see pic)

I will keep you all updated

OK,

I took a few pics of the plants today. One turned out to be a Hermi so it got he yank. They are flowering nice and the runt is doing very well. The runt is 23" tall and the one in the middle is 43" and the one on the right is 45" They all had a 6 week veg and pre-flowered before inducing 12/12

Hey NWbud,
So you were actually able to germinate seeds that were 27 years old? Whew, that's an achievement! I've got some packs that are just 12 years old and none have popped so far...breeder packs remaining are some Kali Mist, Big Bud, White Widow...
Do you have any special tips on your germination method to share? I'd sure like to know your technique for success. I've tried different ways...scarifying w/sandpaper, heat mat, Super Thrive, even gibberellic acid (although that seemed hard to dilute properly)...but no luck yet. Any info will sure help. Of course, it depends on how they were stored too...mine were just in constant room temp in the dark...not optimum I know...

Grow it out,

I have tried all the ones you have. None work better then the other. but I did soak them first in seawead before putting them into germ. I agree that they are hard to pop and some will not. I just have so many that I kept trying until I found some that would pop. I will say this. being old they do take way longer to germ then normal and you could be giving up before they are ready. I have had some take 20+ days to grem.

NWbud,

Thanks! I'll keep trying as it's worth it just for the challenge, plus the benefit if even a single one eventually pops. My timing might be an issue as you noted...the H2O for soak got moldy at a certain point and I toss them out; so I'll try replacing the water daily to keep it fresh, and letting them soak for as long as they want. Also, the seaweed is certainly worth a try.

Thanks very much...really appreciate your advice.

BTW, it's cool you watch out for that runt of your current litter. They seem to have a really strong spirit if they make it, and she looks just super.

Best to ya!
