rock hard nuggets

I have been growing several strains OG, White Russian, Cotton Candy etc.. All of my buds look just like the pics in High times Mag. My question is how do I get rock hard buds in stead of fox tails? I use T5's for Veg (8 four foot system) & 600w hps to flower? Also using 400w CMH for flower?
When I check out the buds in the dispensaries they are rock hard even the same strains that I grow? I use CO2 room temp is 78.
Is it my strains or the way I'm growing?

to much heat will make for a" larfy" bud. But 78 is a great flowering temp.Might be your choice of ferts? To much N late into bud cycle...Good luck

Gotta step up your wattage!! Maybe lower lights onto canopy?
78 degrees is a good temp, but up to 82 will increase metabolism and utilize more co2. This should take care of the heat increase from the step up.
Remember the light waves are energy!

Keep in mind that some growers will crush and mold their buds into what consumers perceive to be a desirable "dense" nug. This cheapo trick works on a lot of neophyte tokers, unfortunately. Very easy to tell who has been squishing their buds though.

For the love of God and all that is dank, please don't butcher your buds' natural form. So sick of seeing that crap in dispensaries.

But yes, strain and environment are the biggest factors. Heck, even phenotypes within a strain will produce very different buds. I have a superb Blueberry that is consistently fluffier than her rock-hard sisters, but the quality of smoke/high is second to none.

who cares how dense a bud is? the effect is the most important. effect, taste, aroma...

The monkeys at the dispensaries do, when they're trying to low ball you. I grew Mosca's Sonic Fly and my BubbleJack side by side. The bubble jack foxtailed while the sonic fly was dense. If it's not heat I would say it's the strain. I try to explain that it's the Jack, but they see an opportunity to get something good for cheap and I can't blame them for trying.

I've been consistently asked if my room is too hot(even in the dead of winter), because a strain that I grow foxtails severely.

No matter what I do this strain grows this way. The calyx's are rock hard, but they tend to grow in long columnar formations. I will be back to put up a pic.

The dense buds seem to have more leaf material, its like the leaf covers the fox tail?
what? bud density is not more leaves. its tight buds,

I have had loose bud problems in the past all do to over fertilizing, try to lower your ppm's down a little, what ppm are you running?

My burmese kush and my grape ape both exhibit this trait. Stacked columns of calyxes intertwined to make some odd dense buds are one of the hallmarks of my grape ape.

My burmese kush on the other hands foxtails in every frigging direction at once, like a porcupine of calyx stacks. Even from a baby bud it does this.

If u run the same cut as others, an yours are not as dense , its the way you are growing. Light intensity plays a big part as well. replacing bulbs every 8-10 months, running clean reflectors close to the plants within burn limits.

your nute line.

my buds tend to fox tail more when i run higher N ammounts. Pk 13/14 in the right doses an timing can help things fatten up. I've been running lucas ratio with GH for the past 2 years and its been the best quality an density i have ever ran.

I also find Silca blast puts on the weight. Same clones time an time again, same setup. when i added silica blast at 5 mill per gal to the mix, an the same feeding sced as before,, it jumped my yield from 1-1/4 pounds to 1-1/2 per 600. Ya, 600watt horti bulbs.

alot of things come into play. hope some of this helps...

be well an b-safe

i dont use c02.. but ive always heard that with c02 you need to run a higher temp to keep up with the growth rate... 82 sounds perfect with supplementing and ive heard of rooms going higher into the 90's.... it would help if we knew the nutrients being used and at what ppm and you ph.... heat can cause loose buds.... i would suggest, not using the c02 with lower temps and see how it goes... or raise your temps so the metabolism of the plant will speed up and use it more efficiently... good luck.....PEACE...

if you use gravity cut back your nutes to 1/4 strength youll burn the fuck out of your plants if not.... itll tighten you shit up like vinegar in grandmas bath (snap that pussy back whippish).... i used it 12 plants, 4 full strength nutes and gravity- burned all the leaves up and some of the buds... next 4 got half strength nutes and gravity burn the leaves mostly but the buds were the size of softballs... and the last 4 i did 1.4 strength nutes and gravity and have beautiful huge colas... even the lower buds were denser than usual... i have since quit using additives and only use Flora Nova 1 part for my nutes... i have had awesome results and love it..... i wasted over 400 on nutrients and additives before i learned my lesson...PEACE...

HPK from roots organic will help-organic bud booster
it really comes down to genetics-even with temps in the 90's my sour kush nugs are as dense as beaster nug-literally smash a window if thrown hard enough type density
if your results with OG's are whispy buds, you are lacking in skills, not genetics
closely follow a few grow diaries from the masters on this site from start to finish

Vacuum sealing your weed will make it more dense like dispensary weed. Increases bag appeal and releases more plant oils making the weed smell more dank. But yes it is mostly strain specific. A lot of indicas are more dense that their sativa brethren.
