DO NOT USE N G W TUBING DUE TO OFF GASSING ....LINK AT THE TOP OF NEXT POST DUE TO SPACE....
DIY Hydro System:
What you will need for a 2 bucket system (this can be made as big as you want)
6- 5gal. buckets
2- T valves
2- Funnels
2- Feeder lines
1- Water pump
1- Rezorvoir
1- Air pump
1- Air stone
1- Hose clamp/bib
2- pot containers (pun intendid):)
About 2 five gallon buckets of hydroton
1x2 feet of door screen
10 feet or so of half inch black tubing

Tools that are needed:
Drill
Drill bits - a 1 inch bit (for the nipples, put the bit up to the nipple to make sure its the right size for what you are using)
a quarter inch bit (for the drain holes)
and a key hole saw about 2 inches big (for the stands)
and a half inch bit for the drain holes into the rez
Glue gun with altleast 4 glue sticks

1st drill 1, 1 and a quarter inch hole in the bottom of 2 of the buckets.

2, drill 1, 1 and a half inch hole in the bottom of 2 other buckets and then on the sides, once you drill both sides of each bucket take some tin snips and cut a big enough hole to get your hand in so you can run the drain line through

3, drill a bunch of little drain holes in the last 2 buckets, be carefull not to go outside of where the funnel will be, then glue the funnel to the bucket, in other words all the water draining from the top will run down through the funnel and directly into the line, any holes outside of the funnel will not drain and wont work.

4, put the line together with the T valves

5, put nipples in 2 of the buckets

6, run the line through the bottom of 2 buckets

7, connect the top bucket with the nipple to the drain line with a little 2 inch hose connector

Once all thats connected it will look like this

8, put the bucket with the funnel, inside the other bucket with nipple, the funnel fits snug right into the top of that nipple, then add the screen

9, next add hydroton into the bucket (you can fill the whole bucket up with hydroton if you are trying to grow monsters or you can add a little pot as i will show

10, puncture 2 holes in the feed hose and add the feeder lines

11, run the drain line into the rez and hook the feed hose to the water pump and run it through the top of the lid or somewhere
high as in the 4th pic to the right, it shows the feeding hose coming through the top
picture.php

12, make sure everything is tidy mainly the end of the feed hose which needs to be sealed,

This is what the system should look like when done. Except you will notice i had a zip tie on this one, however the hose above is the safest.

and if height is a problem either tying down or breaking the stems takes care of this and also makes for a more even canopy. Peace on the Planet

why not just use normal drain lines like normal people do instead of using glues and shit which end up failing after a while....im still confused on this setup makes no sense to me............seems like way too many parts which can leak and looks way too tall for most people.care to explain how this really works because it just makes no sense to me....seems like with all those parts you could just make 4 simple flood/drain buckets or rdwc buckets.....

Because i must not be normal, and the glue fyi in case you didnt read the OP is only for the funnel. If your careful and put things together right, most all pieces are fitted so leaks are far and few between then extinct, all the kinks get worked out in the beginning as with most new designs or concepts. 2nd full run with system and works like a horse, hassle free and the system stays together when its done, only the top bucket comes out and gets cleaned with the rez all else stays put. If height is a problem then break or tie down the plants which is usually beneficial, imo

durka_durka How it works, water gets pumped up 24-7 through the feeder tubes which in turn feed the plant in the hydroton, the water runs through the hydroton feeds the plant, drains down the bucket through the funnel directly into the nipple since the funnel fits right in it and goes down the drain to the rez and repeats all day long for a constant feeding regime. Good day and no this isnt for everyone:tiphat:

A hole on the side of the bucket would do the same thing though and use 2 less buckets. What works works and if you like it more power to you, anybody else thinking of making a recirc drip system should realize it's a bit overworked though.

This is also wonderful for not having to bend over to tend to the plants which is a big plus, Yeah I couldve came out the side but I dont like the thought of possble water sitting in the bottom of the bucket with organic nutes, not all water drains out the side, this way i can be sure that organic nutes are all draining out safely and not stagnating in the bottom, which i am not saying would happen but i dont want to take the chance for it to. Good day

In that case you know what you should use, a big ass traffic cone. I've seen ones big enough to use like this, you could just cut the tip off and turn it upside down.

***WARNING*** PLEASE READ ASAP

***WARNING*** PLEASE READ ASAP

Just a quick heads-up... I noticed in your pic that you use the N-G-W.com 1/2 black tubing. It offgasses and kills plants with what looks to be Total Nute Lockout. I am so glad I noticed that, NO SHIT! Google N-G-W.com to read up on it, should be the first few links. But replace it ASAP. This is not a joke. Many people have lost entire Harvests because of the cheap chinese additives put in their tubing. I have personal experience with this over the last year.

Set-up Looks Awesome! Good Luck +rep

Sorry about the Grande Warning. I wanted to make sure to get your attn asap. I dont see much evidence that it gave you a problem this round as they only appear to be flushed. But I suspect that if you did run a 10 week strain, you would see alot more of it. I unfortunately was not so lucky. I believe I had more problems than you because you are able to keep ambient temps much lower than I do? Needless to say, I have replaced all my tubing, and luckily didnt use any in my last build which is starting week 5 of 12/12, such a beautiful sight compared with how things have been going (actually lost whole rooms). I guess it has bankrupted a few commercial growers.

You mentioned trying to find a better producing strain. I was wondering if the AK's will produce better once you change out the hose? You will know once you harvest the soil AK's?

:thank you: Thanks for sharing your build!

Ahh man no problem lol , "grande warning" love it:D I dunno if the tubing would make that much of a noticable difference or not. Thats terrible about the hose thing, where did you get the hose you use now? As for a better producing strain, this would have produced more for sure had i done everything perfect and AK is a nice producer but yeah im gonna run a bunch of the 2009-2010 Chronic to see what kinda numbers i can get outta of her running on this system but after i do a run of this other girl that just floated my way;). I wont know too much of anything about the AK in comparison with this last grow since the veg time is questionable along with it being my first organic hydro run, they came from an ez cloner and were all different sizes so nothin to do comparisons with not even soil you pheel me. All honesty no bullshit i didnt expect the AK organic grow to make it and thats my word, it took me almost 2 years to just try it and i finally just did it! Easy does it dmoose and thanks.

Unfortunately, I picked up the hose with the 1st system I purchased. After a few months of everything dying, I switched to dirt, then Hempy, then was determined to make Hydro work out (much less bugs), and the probs started again. Harvest weight was severely affected if you were able to keep them alive to harvest. From my Bad experiences growing WITH the tubing, I realize I may have eliminated some strains permaturely, thinking they were low producers.

The GOOD thing about the hose.... in trying to overcome the bad effects... I have a learned a ton about all aspects of growing, and somehow, I ended up here.... watching you! :jump:
