Dark Shocking Before Harvest

You guys know the theory - a few days of 24 hr. darkness right before harvest shocks the plant into producing more resin as a last ditch effort to try and be pollinated. My feelings are that this wouldn't do enough to make it universal or worth it even if it were. 3 more days with light instead of darkness would add more weight and potentially more resin and that's just a fact. If total darkness really did provide some sort of significant increase in resin, or anything for that matter, I feel like we would see a lot of threads and pictures showing this and a lot more people pressing for it. It seems rather suppositional at this point but I am not closed off to the idea and am willing to hear anyone out :)

What I am wondering is, given the increased availability of gas chromatography and cannabinoid/terpene analysis, have there been any legit studies done to show an increase in cannabinoid or terpene levels with this method?

If not, many props would be given to the ICmag individual who chooses to do an experiment. Obviously you would need a clone and to keep all of the variables as close to the same as possible. Thanks for your guys' time and potential help.

There are some people that swear that this does help. I have never tested it. DG uses 72hrs of darkness before she harvest her plants. She might be able to help you

i tried it , only thing happened was slight loss of chlorophyll... nothing on the trich side changed
God for bid you do it any type of recirculating system.. youll end up with root rot death in your system like you have never seen or smelled lol

Same with Acapulco gold myth By .. cutting a circle in bottom skin of plant near stalk week before harvest
Supposed to boost trichs and cuts off chlorophyll production turns weed golden..
i think is all BS

I dont know about it boosting trichs, but girdling is not BS.

Girdling results in the removal of the phloem, and death occurs from the inability of the leaves to transport sugars (primarily sucrose) to the roots. In this process, the xylem is left untouched, and the tree can usually still temporarily transport water and minerals from the roots to the leaves until the roots die. Death occurs when the roots can no longer produce ATP and transport nutrients upwards through the xylem.

I have tried girdling before, i think she lived at least 10 more days, and it was harvest time anyway. I might start messing around again, girdling individual branches, maybe stagger a few days...

As far as extended dark periods before harvest, i tried it a while ago (36h i think), no noticeable improvements. BOG claims to do it.
