I love popcorn buds! They're neat little packages of brilliance. It's dope to hold them in your hand, inspect them, and just be blown away by how much power is packed in the MagicDankCapsules.

I've found growing in a scrog that some buds may not get enough light to mature. The hairs on them will be lighter in color than the top buds. I take these buds along with any smaller than a quarter and the trim leafs and use it to make hash with. My personal stash has small buds in it, but they are segments of larger buds taken off to expose and get rid of the stems in the curing stage.

On the other hand I have a friend that is a light weight smoker who saves those small buds for his personal stash and gives to top grade buds to his patients.

Neither way is wrong, but padding your bags with immature buds is a no no.........scrappy

Fred you may have had foxtailing in your grow. Here's an example of a fox tailed plant. Note the fluff on the lower parts.

yep,a lot of the lower stuff was like that..what causes foxtailin not enough light?

I'm not totally sure how it comes about. One theory is too much light, this same strain (swiss cheese) was fine outdoors.

It is not a desirable trait, IMHO, although it might look impressive. It is damn near impossible to do a good trim on it, then when it dries it looks like lettuce. The lower stuff is just fluff and dries to practically nothing. I hope you have better luck than I did......scrappy

I do a SCROG and usually don't have too many popcorn buds. If I veg long enough and/or properly adjust the height of my screen, almost all of my bud sites end up above the screen, getting light. If I had to guess, probably less than 10% would be what I consider popcorn buds.

But I never remove the buds below the screen. Sure, it might help the upper buds get bigger, but I figure they are so small and there are so few of them, that eliminating the popcorn buds would not make much of a difference. Besides, those little bottom buds are my samples. Both before and after harvest, those are the ones I test.

tony,my 1st scrog was like goin to school..one thing i did wrong was have the buds too far under the screen..i now have a better comprehension of the scrog concept.. at this time i've got hammer, nails, screws, drills, saw, etc in the flower room makin adjustments...

thanks chronic..edward scissorhands it is..

I did this for the first time this current grow I am doing.

My last grow ended up with lots of airy popcorn buds from lower sites. Still dank as hell, but a little leafy. Used mostly to make QWISO. Current grow is a little more than 1/2 way through flowering. No airy nugs at all! Only juicy, heavy, dense, frosty top nugs, soaking up the sun :smoke:

The only problem I foresee is the choice to sacrifice some of these dense nuggets to hash or just enjoy as is . . . But that is the kind of dilemma I am happy to be facing.
