To hps or not to hps

Hey guys!

Been roaming around these forums for quite a while now, and just have to say its great!

Now for questions, i have a grow right now in a 60*60*140 tent.
The light i am using is a 250w CFL for veg and a 250w CFL for flowering.
The results are quite good with the CFL but i know a HPS will give me much better results.

So.. I am thinking of buying an HPS, but im pretty low on cash right now so i can't buy the extra ventilation needed for a HPS.

I would really love to get a 400W, but i guess thats just gonna get way to hot in my small tent. So im thinking about a 250W HPS. Do you guys think i need a cooltube or some extra vent if i get a 250w hps?

Ive got a very strong fan right now, and ive got space to put some fans inside the tent, as i am only going to grow one plant under the hps.

One more thing. Im just going for one plant at a time, so what do you going think is the best method to use? scrog?

If you have a strong fan (output not circulation) I would think a four or six hundred would suit your purpose if you are looking for yeild from one plant.

Sixes are most efficient. You could pull a good deal off of one plant if you trained it to the space before you flowered, especially with a six.

Well its between a 400 or 250 right now, but don't you think i would need a cooltube if i go for a 400?

With my 250CFL the temp is about 25-30 in the tent right now, and i guess an hps will produce much more heat?

One more thing, as im going for 1 plant at a time and doing scrog, its imporant to have a big pot right? i have a 11L right now.

Yeah i will! I decided to go for a 250w hps! I aint looking for uber yeild, just good smoke

Im also thinking about trying a grow with eco soil and without nutrients, to get as clean cannabis as possible

What you guys think about that?

Honestly, go for a min 400. 600 is without doubt the best. As long as you run your extraction at all times the heat should be ok

After your 250 grow, you WILL be saying wish to fuck i'd have gone for a 600.

Well the thing is im getting a 250w cus i hope i can use it without a cooltube. Id love a 400w but i guess its gonna get way to hot.
I aint got so much money right now so i can't really get a cooltube.

My tent is 60*60*140cm, or 24"*24"*55" (?), not really big, so i guess it will get pretty warm.

And im not growing for big yeilds, just some quality smoke!

Edit: Well the thing is, im not 100% if i should go 250w, id love a 400w and i know i will get alot more/better from it. But my only problem is the heat!

u could get a 400 and have a fan blowing directly at the bulb , that will cool it down slightly , yeild will be less with a 250 but seen as your not looking for yeild i'd stick with a 250.

if you look in my 1 plant scrog in my sig , i have 1 under a 400w and 1 under a 250 , both should yeild well but u can notice the difference

I just ordered my 250w kit, thanks for the helping me decide!

Just one more question! im not gonna do one plant scrog, i decided to go for a 2plant scrog with different strains so i can have 2 different smokes at harvest.

I have some 11liters pots right now, but do you guys think i should get bigger?

11L pots should do fine imo but i use coco so i'd check with a soil grower

I'm known for doing my lazy grows (ie just compost and tap water, no nutes added at all, ever). I grow under a 400w and I'm not sure if that adds to the requirements of the plant, I imagine it will. But I have found that 20 litres of compost under a 400w is what is needed to get it from seed to harvest, and it is yellowing nicely at harvest on that volume. Less than 15 llitres and even the smaller plants are starting to need something extra too early in the flowering phase. With a 250w I imagine you can get away with less as there will be less energy being taken in to grow with. But I'm not sure if 11 litres will be quite enough to see them right the way through. I'd get the biggest sized containers you can fit in that floor space, as it seems a shame to spend 3 months to find out that and extra 18 litres of compost (total extra to make it up from 11 litres each to 20 litres each), would have made the difference. Especially as the compost I use, 20 litres is 99p.
