Successful Smokers???

Everyone has their opinion towards cannabis smokers and users. Most of the people I am involved with look positively toward cannabis. It's a lifestyle for many of them. I personally see the positive aspects of cannabis before any negatives, some see it the complete opposite. My employer, just happens to be someone who thinks of the negative aspects of cannabis and doesn't even want to think about any positive uses for it. He was nice enough to share his thoughts and opinions about marijuana with a bunch of employees that are all daily smokers, going on and on about how pot smokers are not successful and how its addictive. I believe his words went something more like this, "... tell me how many pot smokers in their 40's are successful?"
He sure knows how to bond well with his employees, anyways, this isn't a thread for me to vent about my dick head boss. After this happened I couldn't stop thinking about successful smokers in their 40's or older. I just kept trying to think of as many cannabis smokers who have been successful with their life, maybe i can get some help from everyone, feel free to name one successful smoker if you read this post.

If you measure success by the happiness achieved I think you could name 50% of the people on this forum.

Family, Nature, Cannabis, Music, Education...I'm pretty happy

I know of a local business owner and two medical professionals, all "pillar of the community" types, that are hard core stoners. I also know at least three other "pillar of the community" types that there is a 99% chance they would smoke if they could (drug testing).

All are over 45.

There are TONS of successful people who smoke marijuana.

They do not typically advertise the fact that they smoke marijuana tho, so I can see how your boss could be in the clouds on the subject...

but to add to the list:

Brad Pitt admitted (on Bill Maher's HBO show) that he hasn't smoked since becoming a father.

It depends on how you would define success. If you only consider it by wealth then no I'm not a success. My wife and I live comfortably within our means. However if happiness is a judge of success then my wife and I are two of the most successful people I know.

What about that story Tarantino came out with during promoting Inglourious Basterds that him and Pitt were smoking hash at his house in France. May just be bullshit to get some press for the movie, but who knows? :D

Tarantino, 46, said Pitt pulled out the drug after they drank five bottles of wine.

He told US DJ HOWARD STERN: "He had a big brick of hash. He whipped out a knife like Jesse James and cut me off a big sliver. I thought 'Oh God this should be in a movie'."

I spent the last twenty years, working in the Advertising business. Mainly in the photo end. I have worked with Photographers who get paid $50k a shot. I have also worked with Head designers of billion dollar businesses. Not to mention design engineers and technicians. Guess what 90% of them brought their own stash. The rest were more than happy to indulge in the studios NL I had scored. I have shared with homeless assistants as well as 60 year old heads of industry. They all had one thing in common, the NL I scored for them at one time or another, was their highest ranked!!

Half of the people I roomed with at college were fairly heavy smokers. We shared one bong between about 10 people. Could never find the damn thing.

Anyway, those that I have maintained contact with still smoke and are quite content with their place in life.

Does Montel count? No, wait he does it for MS, and he's one of the lucky few to have a legitimate prescription approved and filled by the Federal government.

How about the Billionaire Sir Richard Branson? Now he's really a space cadet, I mean he's planning on taking rich people on trips to space and has built the world's first space port in New Mexico to help make it happen.

How about Michael Bloomberg? Not only a successful businessman but the Mayor of the city that never sleeps?

How about Stephen King who is a respected master in his field of writing. Has sold over 500 million copies of his works worldwide?

How about most every rock star, many actors/producers/directors, many painters, poets, etc? A vast majority of those people that bring the world culture and art are tokers.

Really though the question is looking for proof that successful people smoke. So one has to ask what defines a success? Do you have to have vast amounts of wealth and name recognition to be a success or is a successful person anyone able to establish a career, buy a home and raise a loving family? If it's the later then there are literally tens if not hundreds of millions of potheads that could be called successful.

Ted Turner still smokes a joint a day.
Doesn't get much more successful then Ted.

Also, there are many smokers that given the current legal climate know better then to publicly admit their use.

My father is a Doctor, he's smoked as long as I can remember, so do all his colleagues, but they are discrete about it, and don't go around admitting regular use.

One of them even has a personal grow

HempKat i agree, it all comes down to what you consider successful. Accomplishment of your goals or dreams, and living the life that you love to live is what is going to make you successful and happy. Thats all you can do in life, be successful for yourself, not for others.
