Desegregation is a hot item nowadays doesn't matter where you are and it is handy to learn the local language.

Sup 420, Just remember Hawaii is pretty much always 12/12 so what ever you put out it will flower quickly. So just vegindoors and then set them out. Sativas are awesome to grow here, longer flowering so they can get bigger. watch out for mold, and catapillars, it rains all the time. Hawaii outdoor is challenging for sure, but the reward is sooooo good!

A weapon is the last thing you want to use to protect your crops here, you would find yourself in an epic shit storm if you did. I've been growing outdoor here for years, and it's tough. Lots of pests year-round, and then there's the rippers...

My advice- total stealth. Don't let anyone see or smell your crops. Be prepared for some hermies if you're flowering outside late in the season (Jan,/Feb). If you're using pots, put the pots into larger pots- roots will fry with single black pots.

Good Luck M8!

thanks for the info festivus... i wasnt talking about rippers, i meant for local nut jobs who dont understand humanity.... i know when you do outdoor there is a bit of preperation and security that needs to be done..... i think what i would really be interested in doing is finding someone who might let me learn from them.... i would rather learn and do than steal and get burned myself... karma is a b*tch like that and im a firm beleiver.... i havent been here very long so im hoping someone will take me under their wing and teach me..... PEACE...

420Stylez, welcome to IC Mag Forums! There is a shitload of dedicated growers here, and most would be happy to answer any questions you can't find the answer for already here. The Search feature puts a gold mine of info at your finger tips.

Just a couple of quick tips, besides Rule #1 (don't tell anyone you grow!)-

When growing outside in an urban area, start your plants inside, and even start their flowering cycle for the first couple of weeks before putting them out. The shortest time outside, the better.

Make sure the property has high fences that rippers can't crawl over. Don't draw any unnecessary attention to the property, but selectively placed barbed wire is a strong deterrent.

Most akamai (saavy) neighbors will know you're growing eventually, but it's usually their kids that will rip your crops. They will watch and time the rip, thinking that harvest time is in October/November. Confuse them by harvesting at off-season times. Use an outdoor blackout box and put plants into flowering in June.

Use staking for more horizontal plants. A great cover for smell are the outdoor fly traps where you cut open the top of the bag, add water and hang. It smells like a rotten pile of guts after a couple of days. You'll need to be descrete with these, as they tend to make you neighbors want to puke, and they stop spending time in their backyard (lol).

Pest control is critical, plants should be sprayed the day they go out with an organic spray (red pepper, cinnimon, clove- boiled and strained, tobacco from 2 sigs soak for 1/2 day in spice solution, then strained, and Ivory Snow detergent which acts as a wetting agent and is said to kill eggs and plug pest's ability to breathe). Spray every 2 weeks. After the third spray, the bugs will stop fucking with your plants and leave them alone until they finish.

Bud rot can be a problem in high rainfall or high humidity areas, so topping the plants for multiple tops is preferred over single cola. Some growers like to see how big a head bud they can get, only to find bud rot deep inside and they loose yield.

Don't tempt your neighbors by having your plants visible. Use shade cloth.

I already mentioned double-potting (3 gallon pot placed into a 5 gallon pot) so your roots don't bake, thus killing your plants or decreasing yield.

Rule #2... Never forget Rule #1

Hawaii Pot Is Hot In Colorado
Hawaiian Entrepreneurs Doing Well In Legal Medical Marijuana Industry
Daryl Huff KITV 4 News Reporter

HONOLULU -- A group of Hawaii residents who say they are really good at growing pot say they've found success in the medical marijuana industry in Colorado.

They said they hope to one day have the same opportunity in Hawaii.

Hawaii's legal medical marijuana patches are small and home-grown, because the law limits who can grow and bans profit from the weed.

But Colorado has taken a different approach, legalizing grow centers and dispensaries like the two owned by Kalani Bullard and his partners.

Bullard said in one year, he’s developed one thriving dispensary in Denver and another about to open in Colorado Springs. He said each dispensary can bring in between $3 million and $8 million per year. He said the state heavily taxes the income, but card-carrying medical marijuana patients still pay less than the typical street price. Bullard said he sells an eighth ounce for between $45 and $60.

Bullard said the Colorado Hawaiian Herbal Health Centers benefit from Hawaii's reputation.

“These guys know Pakalolo, medicinal marijuana,” Bullard said. “So, just by the word Hawaiian, we got success overnight.”

Bullard said there were challenges like changing laws, tight regulations and overtures from organized crime. But Bullard said his operation strives to stay legal under Colorado law.

“We are not here to do anything illegal,” Bullard said. “I mean we are legit and that’s what we want.”

To make police and the federal government comfortable with what's happening in the dispensaries; they are required to stay online 24 hours a day with surveillance cameras that police can look at any time.

“They can come into our dispensary at any time. They audit us. So we have to have a good CPA,” Bullard said.

Bullard and partners were at the Hawaii state capitol building Wednesday, promoting the Colorado model for medical marijuana, which they say would be an improvement for law enforcement, growers, patients and the economy.

Law enforcement officials said earlier this year that Hawaii's 10-year-old medical marijuana law is already being widely abused by people who are not seriously ill and don’t really use marijuana as medicine. They said dispensary sales would increase abuse and attract organize crime.

Lawmakers See Shortage of Medical Marijuana

Legislature Will Consider Ways To Broaden Distribution
Reported by Daryl Huff, KITV 4 News

HONOLULU -- Top state lawmakers are looking for ways to make more medical marijuana available, especially to people in urban areas who can't grow their own. The question is how to do that without indirectly encouraging the growth of the black market.

Hawaii’s 10-year-old medical marijuana law requires certified patients to either grow their own marijuana or find a caregiver willing to do it for them. Caregivers can only supply themselves, if they are also certified, and one other patient. The caregiver is not allowed to profit from the arrangement.

As a result, Hawaii has thousands of small marijuana patches all over the islands' rural areas and growers said they feel harassed by thieves and police, who are trying to find people abusing the law.

State Senate Public Safety Chairman Will Espero said there is a shortage of medical marijuana, particularly on Oahu, and many patients don’t know anyone who can grow for them.

“There are some patients, I am told, who are getting their medical cannabis on the black market,” Espero said. “And this drives the criminal element and that's what we want to avoid and eliminate.”

Owners of medical marijuana dispensaries in Colorado, including one owned by Hawaii residents, are encouraging Hawaii lawmakers to adopt the Colorado model of privately owned grow houses and dispensaries with heavy regulation and taxation.

Espero said he is interested in hearing how private dispensaries would be kept free of criminal investment and other crime. He said the fear that criminals would dominate dispensary businesses is a major concern among his colleagues.

Colorado attorney Tae Darnell, who represents several Colorado marijuana distributors said their operations are monitored by law enforcement and health regulators by both video surveillance and electronic bookkeeping, which can be accessed at any moment.

“At any time the medical enforcement division can go in and look at the accountings,” Darnell said. “It just eliminates any black market potential

Espero hasn’t seen the Colorado group, but cautioned that his colleagues aren’t likely to take the leap to dispensaries right away.

“Many of our legislators want to proceed with caution,” Espero said.

Espero said lawmakers may also change the law to allow caregivers to supply more than one patient. He said another suggestion is to have the government grow and distribute, but he said, few government bureaucrats are experts in growing pot.
