If a tree is deeply rooted, its branches and leaves will never wither. If the
spring is inexhaustible, the stream will never run dry. Without wood, a fire
will burn out. Without earth, plants will not grow. I, Nichiren, am indebted
solely to my late teacher, Dozen-bo, for my having become the votary of the
Lotus Sutra and my being widely talked about now, in both a good and bad sense.
Nichiren is like the plant, and my teacher, the earth.

The main point is to enable one member to stand up by imparting heartfelt
assurance and understanding. It is the explosion of faith in the microcosm of an
individual that causes the macrocosm of the organization -- a gathering of many
such individuals -- to commence its revolution. This is how the doctrine of a
life-moment possesses three thousand realms applies to our practice.

"'Joy' means that oneself and others together experience joy."

"Only by continually taking positive action can we expand the circle of those who support our movement and foster true solidarity. Genuine unity of purpose is forged when everyone strives all out with a firm resolve to win. A passive attitude does not lead to unity. That's why one determined person standing up is the starting point of unity."

"Myo means to revive."*
Buddhism teaches that there is absolutely no such thing as deadlock!.
By chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo
with the strong conviction that we will definitely win,
no matter how difficult the challenge,
let's show actual proof that we definitely can change
poison into medicine through our practice.**

"I have believed it is most important to understand one's obligations to others, and made it my first duty to repay such debts of kindness."

four powers

The power of the Buddha, the power of the Law, the power of faith, and the power of practice. In Nichiren's teachings, the four powers are known as the four powers of the Mystic Law, whose interaction enables one to have one's prayers answered and attain Buddhahood. The power of the Buddha is the Buddha's compassion in saving all people. The power of the Law indicates the boundless capacity of the Mystic Law to lead all people to enlightenment. The power of faith is to believe in the Gohonzon, the object of devotion that embodies the power of the Buddha and the power of the Law, and the power of practice is to chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo oneself and teach others to do the same. To the extent that one brings forth one's powers of faith and practice, one can manifest the powers of the Buddha and the Law within one's own life.

Been doing soo well and still am, but the three obstacles and four devils just wacked me. My mom has cancer again and I really know that I will not retreat. I'm finding it hard to rejoice with this new obstacle, but I am sure that my daimoku will create the right environment for me and mom to get closer and overcome this suffering together.

I've been so busy and doing more than I could ever imagine to be involved in. That includes work, school, my relationship with my significant other, my practice and general responsibilities. As I type this I'm doing a conference call for kosen-rufu in the surrounding counties and will only continue to commit myself to the happiness of all my friends and everyone else in the neighboring area. Nothing, not even the devil of the sixth heaven himself could take my Gohonzon away from me.

Let's keep climbing the mountain of faith together. I derive so much strength from these posts and each of your friendships. Let's keep winning and fighting together.

From the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin

Monday, October 25, 2010:
Moreover, I chant the daimoku, which is the heart and core of the entire sutra, and I urge others to do likewise. Although the mugwort growing in a hemp field or wood marked for cutting with an inked line may not be straight to begin with, they will as a matter of course become so. In the same way, one who chants the daimoku as the Lotus Sutra teaches will never have a twisted mind. For one should know that, unless the mind of the Buddha enters into our bodies, we cannot in fact chant the daimoku.

I am who I am coz I is who I is.
Nam Myoho Renge Kyo!
How exactly is this word pronounced.
Im with you guys on this post, without peace and light, there is only destruction and famine and we cant sustain a healthy world the way the humankind are atm,
but then ive also got the other thoughts of the never ending circle of life, whether is be the snake swallowing its tale, or the pheonix dieing and being reborn in a burst of flame.
The world itself has to "die" in a sense in order to be reborn and start the cycle all over, and the way our kind is going, the world is seeming to come to something big happening, Out with the old "dark age" we live in, and in with the new "golden age" we have to move forward into.
I would like to learn more in the ways of the buddha, what are some interesting books i could aquire to read and learn up on this more.
Peace and pot.

Rather than comparing ourselves to others, what is far more important is that we conquer our own weaknesses, but be patient! It is vital that we strive to improve ourselves, steadily and continually, and cultivate our abilities and strengths so that we can fulfil our own very personal and unique missions, challenging ourselves each and every day!
