one can fan for three lights?

Hi everybody,
just checking.. I'm expanding from a 1K by adding two additional 600s (all HPS). with a can fan exhausting the lights, would you recommend them all in series? One loop from the intake, through each light, and out? If so, what would be the best order?

What about two intakes and and exits from the room Y'd into the fan at the end (up in the attic space)? I'll have a table on each side of the room, one with a 1K, and one with two 600s.

Thanks for your thoughts...

what size can fan are you using? As straight as you can hang the hoods/ducting will be your best bet. Dont y split if you can avoid it, and keep the turns gradual if they have to be there. order of the lamps doesnt really matter, I would put the 1000w closest to the fan, but like i said, set up properly in a straight line, probably wont make a difference

I understand about the reduction in efficiency with every turn of the ducting, but I have to be realistic with my setup, too.. Would a HO 6" Can Fan be enough if ducting from two sides of the room went into it via a "Y"??
Again, that would be one table with a 1K, and the other table with two 600s...each with it's own intake duct from the outside.
Thanks, everyone who's viewing, and has experience with this kind of problem...

I think you're asking a 6" fan to do alot.

I have 3x600 lamps inline currently and my temps hover around 77, lights on, and I have but one (1) slight bend in my run (exhaust).

If it were me, I'd consider getting a second 6" fan.

Best of luck

Thanks, SuperSizeMe!
I appreciate you chiming in.
Thank you, odium, as well.

I might be ok over the winter, but you are right, that's a lot for a 6" to do, I guess, and still do a good job cooling the lights..
wishful thinking that I wouldn't have to have 6" can fans times 4 for everything in my setup (lights, exhaust for two rooms).

If you are doing a closed loop for the lights only, I think the one 6" should be JUST enough for three lights.

I have a 6" on 2k right now. Order of connection (and air) is:
inlet
CanFan
Duct
Light
Duct
Light
Duct
Outlet

With it setup this way you only have two connections that have to be absolutely sealed (if smell is a concern). After the fan (seal that as well) the system is slightly pressurized = leaks not a concern.

Right now, my second light stays cool to the touch on top, and I can still touch the glass no problem. I think a third 1k would be it, then I'd up to 8" fan, and hoods if possible.

very cool, devilweed, thanks so much for the input...
is that a regular, or HO can fan? I'm starting to think that maybe I should try the one fan, drawing from two feeds merged at the fan. The fans are most efficient, they say, when pulling from the end, rather than pushing..
intake, duct, light, duct, exhaust to a fan in the attic. that, times two (but being pulled by the same fan.). I've also always heard that the intake should be twice the diameter of the exhaust, so maybe this would be accomplishing that??

hmmm...

Devilweed, this question is more along the lines of another thread in which I'm asking about Electricity usage, but, with your setup (which is very similar to my power usage), would you mind telling me what the range of monthly electric bill amounts is? I don't mean to pry, if I'm overstepping my bounds...
What do you have (power consumption-wise) in addition to the two 1Ks and the can fan?

Any info is greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to not be sticking my neck out...

Clam, I'm using a regular fan for the light loop and a HO for my carbon/room exchange. I hear ya on the efficiency with suck vs. blow. I just can't have any leaks and sealing everything is such a bitch. Good example, just happened - I have been running 1 light for about a week while I got the next batch ready for flower. With that and the cold temps I turned off my light fan as it wasn't needed. Flipped the other 1k on tonight and plugged the fan in. You should have seen the dust that blew out of the lights...all around the rubber sealed edges...and the duct which I taped. So easy to miss a leak. I'm rambling...

Don't mind sharing my electric. Big pieces of my setup = 2k + 600k + 12Kbtu + 6Kbtu, dehumi. That plus about 35Kbtu of AC in the house during the summer peaked at about $700. Normal house bill used to be $300 during that period. Biggest issue for me right now is a 100amp service. I run that close to 80%during the summer, and god forbid the wife decides to cook something. Can't believe I haven't popped the main. 200amp coming soon. ;)

DW,
ah yes.... a friend of mine just recently upgraded his 100A service for a 200. I'm renting, so I think that might be a bit suspicious...
even so, I'm going to run an outlet circuit from the bathroom 20A circuit into the bedroom, which only has a 15A circuit. That's enough modification for me. :)

Thanks so much for the info. I'm glad to hear that others aren't freaked about high bills like that. I'm sure I won't go higher than four 600s, or one 1K and two 600s. I don't want that much work all by myself...

What strains are you growing, btw?

Also, in response to your fan setup: I never had the dust problems, as I used to exhaust up into my attic space, through the light, with a can fan up there, and a can filter after it, taking care of any smells.. keeping a negative pressure gradient in the room always kept smells out of the rest of the house, as well as not kicking up dust. I'm not sure I'd know what to do in your situation. Probably have to know more..

I'm thinking now about a HO for room exchange, now that you mention yours, btw... thanks.
I run CO2, and it would be nice to get back to filling the room with it as soon as possible.

Hey Clam, if you look at my sig link I think I have pics and details of what I'm growing. Added a couple new genetics into the mic just recently: AK47 and Kushage. The AK is what I'm after...hoping for a cherry pheno. The Kushage just sounded like fun...and it's fem'd so it's just easy.

The dust thing was just what had settled into the inlet (which is vertical through the ceiling). It pushed it through and I could see dust particles come from a bunch of tiny leaks. It was like what you see if you smack a couch cushion in the sun light. Not a concern, just an observation.

CO2 is next for me. I've got 3 of my strains dialed to a T now so the next logical step for me is CO2. I like the Hydrogen units but I hear bad things about HydroInovations support. What are you using for CO2? Do you like it?
