What are the outside room temps ? Is the ballast in the room ? You most likely need to get more CFM's on the light. How hot is it to the touch, the reflector ? Mine is barely warm..

So you're not directly cooling your light?, you can DYI a cool-tube to help with cooling.

A 400 in a 2x2 space, even at 8', will be tough to cool without ventilation, ventilation, ventilation.

Yes, i would take the ballast out if you can, it put out a fair amount of heat especially if it doesnt have a fan currently on it.

CFM is cubic feet per minute, in other words how much air a fan is moving. I can't see the picture very well. You closing doors with no intake hole? Just a fan blowing up?

plants breath too, and need fresh supply constantly...werk on getting a constant supply of fresh, and you'll be golden.

ya throw that thing in a cooltube with a 4" inline fan, exhausting your space, then add some passive intakes

i run about a 2.5'x2.5'x6' (GL80) with a 400watt. i have a 265 CFM dayton blower pullin air through a can filter. i dont have any intake other than the fan pulling hard enough to pull air through the open intake tube. its sucks, but just get a heavier duty fan to pull that air out. mine runs a comfortable 72 degrees constant.....except at night of course (68)
