Would you eat Dog? /discuss

I have eaten dog before it was coyote, a "drunk" redneck in the neighborhood shot it and grilled it. I always said I would try things atleast once so I did tasted like most wildgame does but I wouldnt do it ever again much better meat to eat.

Only if I hated that dog! If I kill it, I eat it. My friend has a beagle and I would love to just put the sig to his head and make him sleep, but then I'd have to eat him, that's whats holding me back.

Myself and 11 other of my unit while training in S. korea/Camp Humphry's we went out to train with the Korean Rock Marians which dog is won of there subsitance options, and an initiation for all foriegn service people coming to train with them. Wasnt good but/ wasnt bad either, I'd eat it before goat!

Really?

I'd eat goat curry all day before even thinking about dog.

If I was in asia or some shit for vacation, Id maybe try it. But if I was in a life threatening situation id definitely eat absolutely anything to survive.

Any decent country would treat all of it`s animals bred for food with humanity & provide a quick painless death .

like in the US where livestock is routinely skinned alive?

"According to Steve Cockerham, a USDA inspector at Nebraska slaughterhouses, and former USDA veterinarian Lester Friedlander, some U.S. slaughterhouses routinely skin live cattle, immerse squealing pigs in scalding water, and abuse still-conscious animals in other ways to keep production lines moving quickly."
http://www.veganoutreach.org/whyvegan/slaughterhouses.html

"'roughly 10 to perhaps 30 percent' of the animals at the IBP plant 'proceed through the skinning and dismemberment process in a fully conscious state.'"
http://www.ericsecho.org/investigation.htm

livestock has no less soul than 'pets.' morally there is no difference between eating something tame or something wild..

this fast food nation is no more humane just because we eat cows instead of dogs.

that being said, i wouldnt want to eat anything that eats dog food, cat food, or any other freaky man-made feed. <- thats what makes eating dogs seem really gross!

When I was a kid, my family always had at least one and sometimes as many as three Alsations sharing the house with us. As a result I always feel a tiny bit of an emotional attachment to almost any dog, although I'll never have one as a pet. For that reason alone I would probably only eat dog if it was the only option and I was very hungry.

That said there is no rational argument for dogs not being on the menu. They aren't smarter than other animals, in fact they're painfully stupid that's part of their charm. I find arguments that an animal's right to life is a function of how cute it looks a bit scary. They're loyalty is very commendable but you've got to balance that against the fact that some dogs will happily chew a toddler's face off with minimal provocation.

As far as I'm concerned once I made the decision that it was OK to eat dead animal, everything bar humans is an option.

when i was in korea, they beat the dog to death in front of you to release adrenaline and soften the meat. It a honor the do rarely especially for outsiders.

In Korea it's the other, other white meat

Q: Is it true that the dogs are tortured before they are killed?
A: Again, because Livestock Processing Act does not cover dog meat, there is no restriction about how to kill a dog for meat. At the meat market, the need to slaughter the dogs quickly usually means dogs are electrocuted, similar to cattle. However, especially in rural areas where people slaughter dogs to cook and eat on their own, the common method is to hang the dog and beat it to death, in an attempt to tenderize the meat. (This, however, may be counterproductive; while beating the meat does tenderize it, an animal that dies in a stressed state generally produces tougher and less tasty meat.) A figurative expression in Korean for a severe beating is “like beating a dog on bok day.”

Where did you hear that? It's not what I've seen. Dogs were used to protect and in hunting...just like today...not for eating themselves.

I heard it on some science show, don't know if it was Nova or Naked Science or some other show, just that it was either on PBS or Natgeo. Yes it was quickly realized that wolves/dogs would be more useful for hunting, but before that they were domesticated as an intended food source.

If friendly ET's ever visit we had better hope they aren't meat eaters. Cuz friendly is a relative term, and it's unlikely that they will find us "cute". Hopefully they don't find us delicious.

Good comeback and good point! :D I don't eat much meat and would like to eat less, but I can't imagine giving it up completely, although I would rethink that if it meant I was not on the menu in some alien restaurant! :D
