would vertical be best option?

6 large plants ideally... no more than 9 per 1000 watts. Does not matter if vertical or horizontal. You can do many more small plants with a 1000... very short veg time.

vertical will eliminate the cost of hoods but might raise your cooling needs.

I found that running a cooltube can be a pain because the glass constantly gets dirty on the inside and its a bitch to clean. I have a bunch of cooltubes collecting dust. I now run bare 600 watt bulbs and clean them once a week.

^should not be an issue if your electricity is in check.

Do you feel uneasy about leaving a 100w on while your away? its the same principle. So long as there isn't anything touching the bulbs to catch fire, you're concern should lie in the electrical setup.

I also feel bare bulbs are easier to cool, and maintain. I have 5 cool tubes for the summer heat, but never used em.
