iron def. with a strange transplant, seeking advice

sorry to treat this something like the infirmary, but im not really looking for a diagnosis, just advice from coco peeps :)

first our transplant:
from 1-2 gallon pots of pure canna coco, we transplanted about 30 OG Kush plants to 7 gal pots. the tricky thing is that the 7 gal pots still had "stumps" from last harvest in them. i simply cored enough out of the 7's for the new pots to snugly fit, make sense so far?

the 7gal pots were already well flushed, they also got a healthy ammount of runoff post transplant. there was also a small azamax treatment for a small but developing fungus gnat population.

we now have a classic iron def. with 90% of new growth (top to bottom) all very white and shriveled. a few plants seemed to not be very affected, and the group of them under an HPS don't show any damage at all. some also seem to be in a recovery stage

we hand water with canna AB (+rizo at this stage) at about 1.6ec with runoff (well check that soon) ph at 5.8 usually. the few questions i have are:
is this a normal way to transplant? its not something i'm very familar with yet and i'm just following directions for the most part.
could a flush be beneficial? i know lack of drainage can be a culprit for iron def. and i'm wondering about how well the old coco drains... we are currently leaning towards drying them out a bit more. they were watered (with lots of runoff) about 3-4 days ago

i think a micro- foliar feed will help them through these tough times, but i want to get to the bottom of this! if this is coherent enough and you have some experience or advice i would greatly appreciate

cheerios

Am I reading this properly? Did u say u took 7 gal pots that u had plants in previously and just took the root bulb out and used that coco with some new coco for ur 2 gal up pot? If so, this might be ur problem man. Not sure if it such a good idea to use coco over like that unless u wash it..Salt build up and nutes already in that coco at the bottom??? :dunno:

Also, what ur ph going in and coming out? What ur ppm going in and coming out?

i thought it was a strange process too! my boss says that this kind of transplanting is commonplace, he has seen it done (or been advised about it??), but this is our first time doing it. my understanding is that as long as a zym product is being used (we us cannazyme) the old roots are being broken down as the new ones creep in.

they have been sluggish (to say the least) from their transplant, and this deficiency is just icing on the cake. maybe i should be looking for a consensus on this transplant technique, thats the only thing i can think of thats different from what we normally do...

the old 7gal pots were flushed pretty well initially and have since been flushed again
i'll have to check the runoff next time... i'm trying to convince my boss to flush again!
ph in is usually 5.8
i don't know ppms but ec is usually 1.6

aaahh, so 1st off we know ur ec is not bad...but ph coming out is at 6.5? :yoinks:
Drop ph down to like 5.5. and keep flushing, even take the run off out of trays, u might be surprised and still be able to save them. Good luck man.:tiphat:
