Powerful But Boring

Are there any experts out there in this most educated of Cannabis forums who have some knowledge pertaining to the cannabinoid profiles of the very powerful but not really euphoric hybrids? I'm thinking of the shittier "white" strains, northern lights etc...

I know that those specific strains are very indica but why do many premium indica strains, good whites, various kushes etc, produce a similar level of debilitation but with more euphoria and less confusion and malaise?

Is it all about CBD/CBN ratios? Does the mysterious "thcv" come into it? Have I just never had good northern lights?

After 5 years of growing mostly White Widow (from Oasis) my opinion was that it was extremely potent, but boring as hell. That was 1990's genetics so I can't really say how it is now. Haven't smoked ANY White Widow since 2003.

not an expert but i don't think northern lights is in the white strain family
but i have grown out nirvana PPP which is a white strain, and meets your criteria in some respects
i have anxiety issues, and for me PPP was a pretty good find
you could describe it as boring, i found it to be very non anxious, which was good from my point of view

gotcha, i did read that a bit wrong
probably thinking abut a nl#5 pheno that i grew for quite a while
not boring, could actually be a bit too edgy if not ripened well

^^ I guess I wasn't that clear, I didn't mean to imply that northern lights is related to the white strains.

id discribe northan lights as narnotic! a go to sleep smoke ! something that when you smoke it you dont wanna see anyone just wanna sit there !!!

and id say the reason some other INDICA have more europric and up highs is poorly they have more /differnt sativas infused in them , diff ratios can have massive affects on the buzz !!

cud even be that an extra 3, 4, 5, percent more sativa could change the feelin from a nl narcotic to a more upliftin feelin but still with the indica clowt !!!!!!!!

I had an opposite experience with PPP, it was some of the most uncomfortable feeling weed I have ever smoked. way too much thinking and slight paranoia. it yielded heavy and looked nice but was boring as hell in flavor and high.

Good question, I find the same with alot of the hybrids, powerful but boring.
Maybe some breeders are just selecting for strength because thats what they think will sell?

it's always interesting with the different experiences
could have been the pheno i grew, just 1 female, so it might have been a fluke
back to the OP's original question, and cannabinoid profiles
from what i saw of one test on PPP, it supposedly had practically no cbd
which could jibe pretty well with your experience, low cbd strains have something of a paranoid reputation

Powerfull but boring? Nothing new... many strains are like that...i.e. many of the Dutch is like that. I guess that´s because of the selection criterias of many of the breeders: short plants with dense, productive and powerfull buds, ideal for commercial indoor growing, not emphasizing the selection criterias for good high and quality smoke instead.
Another reason is that most dutch strains and hybrids came out of a handfull of "basic" strains (skunk, etc.), that are crossed, recorossed and re-recrosssed a hundred times and make dozens of highly related strains out of it, that´s one of the reasons why dutch has that sweet fruity notes in the taste and similar high in many of their strains.
Try for example Blueberry lines and crosses, they have that kind of postitive euphoria you are talking about and in the same time relaxing high.

Ahh and let´s not forget... for many (if not most) it´s only business and make money, not true loving cannabis breeders that want to create a "holy grial" for smoke... it´s for the cash.

Does anybody have any ideas about specific Cannabinoid ratios? I feel it must be a difference between CBN and CBD but I don't know which is which. I do know that many strains with purportedly massive THC content (like northern lights or the jack herrer indy expression) can produce this type of heavy, brain numbing high.

I really don't think it's a matter of how much sat is in a strain as someone above suggested. Maybe for things like the og kush and various other "new" kushes, but I know that pure indica smoke can be very relaxing but euphoric and clear headed, not this confusing robot weed we have all over the place.

I'v got to agree with Manoverde, its all about selection of breeding stock. There is lots out there that is superb smoke.
