Root bound plants can cause premature budding?

I asked this in another thread, but no one responded. I will make it clear and to the point. I could have rambled a little too much - drinking and smoking are not a good combo for me.

Is it possible for plants that have been root bound for a long time to start budding slightly under 18 hours of light? Thanks in advance!

Yes it is possible, it is known to happen with certain strains. Which strain are you growing?

Are these plants from seed? To what extent are they showing flowers? It could be just a matter of age. Depending on the genetics plants will show pre-flowers at different times. I have three separate cultivars going right now that didn't show any pre-flowers until 90 days of age. On the dot almost. :)

So yes it could be stress from being rootbound or age or maybe something else.

Thanks everyone for the response. The strain is AK47 and I went away for a month and had someone look after my clones for me. They were in 5 inch pots when I left and I told him to transplant them when they get large enough. Well he took good care of them and they look very healthy, but he didn't transplant them. Now they are five feet tall in these tiny pots and it looks as though they are slightly budding. There is no buds yet, but the hairs are grouping together like when a plant has been budding for a week or so. I have transplanted them tonight so hopefully a week veg will be enough to get them back to normal and I can trigger them. They are too large so I am going to have to tie them down, but that is okay. I have the height and I grow vertical style anyways, so all should be good - I hope.

The thing I am worried about is this strain I have had for over 5 years now clone from clone and I had not taken any new ones yet. I hope the stress from the tiny pots don't screw the strain up somehow. What do you think, is it possible? This strain is the best I have smoked to date with the exception of a couple from years ago, so I want to keep her producing well.

Thanks!
