EDIT:10/25/2010: ive decided to make this my small little Grow journal :) ill be updating

this is my first grow. 2X60 watt 27k, 1 intake fan and a 2 fan outtake rig. mg soil until i can get some money to drive 30 min to the nearest hydro shop. Ive been feeding them black-strap molasses mixed with water once a day and my water is aerated for 24 hours. i planning on replacing my current fan model with this http://www.coolerguys.com/840556021698.html

Hi,

:jawdrop: it's pretty small in it, and the color of your lamp isn't really adapted for the growth phase, prefer a 6000°K.
Protect your transparent "pot" from light, roots don't like it.

im sure ill be able to do a sog in there so im not really worried. im 99% sure there all female
also will a 6000k improve growth rate in veg? i forgot to mention in the first post that my temps average 75-78 during the day and 65-70 at night with mu humidity at 40%

too close to the light, not blue enough for solid veg like 6-6500 kelvin. id chill on the black strap and just water for a bit, looks like that mix has enough materials for decomposition to provide some nutrient. too much molasses can gunk up your mix and cause nutrient lock out also .
mix up the lighting, go with 1 bloom and 1 veg bulb, youll get best results all around in my opinion. your soils ph is probably crazy right now, be sure to give it a little flush. it will help remove some of the excess stuff and clean it up.
good luck

Ph is not so important when you grow in soil ;)

But over-watering is the first problem for beginners so take care about how often you water.

Wow , ph is by far one the MAIN components in agroculture, dirt or hydro, in the end it is what allows the plant to EAT, anybody who wants to be my guest and do a project with all kinds of ph and see the results, you will notice how your yields are higher with a more stable ph.
Now you plants look to me like they are in dirt donno how packed the stuff is but yes your ph seems too low perhaps a bit too much fertilizer to start with? overwatering could affect aswell, stick to low numbers when you have seeedlings going, then as the plants get strong and can handle high E/C numbers then it would be time to blast strong fertilizer chemical or organic, you still have time to make a comeback,be patient and if i were you i would add some more light in that garden.
take it easy and remember, one thing is for sure growing teaches you patience.

multiple small watering a day which i hear is the best
Clearly not.

It is better to water more when the plant is thirsty, when the leaves begin to soften, leaving a drain flow into the saucer then you will empty.
So then you'll know when to water, shortly before the leaves become soft with the same amount of water without the drain.

You should take a look to the documentation that might be available on IC.

Good night

Pick up the pot. Know wet vs dry. Wet = heavy / dry = light. Mj likes to be drenched, only after soil/soil less mix dries out. Roots need oxygen, they only get it in dry/drying mix.

ibj is right, check your pH.

it is FINE to buy 2700k bulbs and use during veg & flower. he does not need 6000k bulbs. LOOK at the spaces between nodes, less than 0.5cm. that is tight enough.
what he does need is brighter bulbs. those 60w equiv are about 11-14w ? not enough!! u can use 2x 23-30w, which will make it more interesting. fit 3x23 in there for better results.

as for your plants.. um bulb distance is ok, more powerful bulbs mean u can be a little further away so overnight they do not reach the bulb and burn, yes canabis is stupid and will do that :\
your soil is shit, i can tell just by looking it has barkchips which are useless. fungi can grow on it and plants suffer nutrient deficiencies more easily and sooner.

thank you all for the help ill be sure to change out my watering routine. i was looking on lowes website for a soil ph tester and i found this http://www.lowes.com/pd_251966-83666-1240_0__?productId=3028419&Ntt=soil+ph&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Dsoil%2Bph idk if i can text water runoff with that or if id even have to, could i just stick taht into the soil? again i appreciate all the help

That's a soil/soil less probe. Never tried one but Stitch's (infirmary) thread says they're not reliable. Ace hardware has a kit that mixes your water and a sample of soil less to get a reading. It's color-coded. Wal-mart has aquarium, drop kits that color-code run-off or water + fert, whatever. ~$5.00 each

Problem with color codes is they're sometimes hard to read through dirt-colored water. I like the aquarium drops for clearish samples. I only use this as back-up. Floranova alone is enough to render these difficult at best.

You can get a liquid, digi - pH meter for ~$20 and up. Hanna Checker is common. This and lesser expensive liquid, digi-meters are only as good as the care they are given. Follow the mfg's tips to the letter for best results.

Sorry to spill so much but economical pH tests have their drawbacks. I recon some grow just fine w/o a pH reading but they're lucky or experienced or both.

Dolomitic lime in soil less goes a long way to buffer the mix plus the water that's introduced. A typical bag of soil less (~5.6pH in my experience) might use a tablespoon of lime per gallon to get between 6.5 and 7pH. I try to let a moistened batch of mix steep for two months, turning a time or two for efficiency. Even if my water/ferts are ~6.2, the limed mix buffers the result. Far less time spent worrying about pH troubles.

No matter how you read it (or don't) pH is only your friend if it's in the zone your medium needs. Your plants will always tell you if it's too high or too low. By then it's a little late for large swings.

Best wishes with your grows.:)

smokeymacpot is right-on about the pine products in your mix. But you guessed it, I'm on the pH train and pine is too hot (low pH). Even composted pine might be the lowest pH in your soil less mix. Look at the bag ingredients, try to avoid the ones that list pine products up top on the list. For example, you'll see peat, then pine products, maybe humus. If at all, I'll look for pine as the 4th, maybe 5th ingredient on the list. More expensive mixes seem to have less pine in the makeup. FFOF may not have pine at all but it's $20 a bag for me. :(

PH is important in any medium period!!!! If the ph is off the plant cant eat what you are feeding. Your wasting your $ on nutes if your not ph'ing. Make sure you do not over water!! when you think there dry wait a little longer to water! if i were you i would add perilite to your soil from now on. It will help to air up your medium, and air is what the roots need! When i grew is soil i had a 60/40 dirt/ perilite mix. its cheaper cause perilite cost almost nothing and its much better for your ladies. Good luck and dont water to much!

It looked good from the beginning any reason why you trimmed the shade leaves? as the plant grows if there is any imbalance in the fertilizers the plant will use those lower leaves to absorb the imbalance (they will turn brown or drying up) to stem off any damage to the new growth, well since they are all gone now it will take longer to recover or possibly die.

Looks like Mag def pick up some Garden lime at you local garden store, it's cheap.
