Peat pellet into hydroton for DWC?

I know most use rockwool for this, but is anything wrong with using peat pellets instead? I already have some clones with roots starting to poke out and I'd like to try DWC with them.

Peat pellets also seem to work better for seeds and clones I find.

I've seen people clipping off the mesh, and washing off most of the peat, but why not just plop the thing in there? The roots don't seem to have any trouble poking through the mesh. Seems like it would cause less stress to the plant.

But I'm just speculating, has anyone tried this?

I find mold on the ones I use, so when I transplant into hydroton I just cut away the very fine net then rinse in a bowl of PH'd water until the roots are clean. No more mold. I don't worry about stress - once the roots get a taste of that yummy water the plant takes off.

I use jiffy's, I think its the same thing your talking about, and I transfer them to netpots and hydroton and in to the DWC they go, never a problem, I don't remove anything.
I do love them, clones root way better than rockwool

Indeed, Jiffy = Peat Pellet

Well, one report of mould. I suppost I'll give it a try and see how it goes!

Thanks.

No, it is not ideal at all, peat can allow mold and root rot a place to start. The peat will fall in the res is the main point. Rapid rooters are ideal, rockwool sucks ass. Ppots can work, but can also cause issues.

Well shit. Hopefully it works out for me like it did samba, cause it's all done now.

I left the papar on, so no peat will fall into the res. I have no idea why peat would cause mould over rockwool or a rapid rooter?

What are rapid rooters made from?

Maybe those who experience mould had higher water temps or less airflow?
