While a box has a greater volume than a tube, it doesn't look like they fill the box. It appears as though only the plates have carbon and they look pretty thin. Unless I'm misreading the illustrations, this looks like something to avoid.

At the entry point there are 3 carbon plates and they all "angle down" towards the exit point creating for lack of a better word a "vortex effect" at the endpoint. already spent the money so will have to try it out. I have never used carbon scrubber before and have previously vented out a chimney liner without problems, ( minimal odor) but houses are starting to spring up too close for comfort. The reason for not going with a standard setup is the box conveniently fits between joists for basement grows/ space saving convenience vs. a big bulky scrubber. I agree the looks arent that good but hey dont knock it till ya try it I guess. Will keep you updated if interested:wave:

i use them and like them. the filters are easily removed and replaced, better then trying to get rid of 150 lb's of carbon. i change mine out every 6 months, the replacements are not to expensive....
