Try to be honest if you can, why do you fear the blue dye but not the black dye? I wouldn't be surprised if those bags are made in china as well

I have a question about these wal-mart totes... Dyes and other chemicals aside, are they woven? I did a bit of research yesterday, and it seems that all of these cheap totes are made from non-woven polyester. It may be great as a grow bag, but doesn't offer the same air permeability as a smart pot or w/e made of woven fabric.

I think that you could make your own out of landscape fabric, but DHF helped me to find an even better alternative. Thanks DHF!

The size of your grow has a lot to do with experience level. I don't claim to be a ganja god or anything, but I'm confident I've experienced more issues running rooms than you have running your closet grow... No offense, as I have nothing against personal grows. Just saying, more plants= more opportunity for things to go wrong.

DHF has a lot more experience than most of us. He's grown plants longer than I've been alive, and he's retired now. I would have to grow for at least 15 more years to catch up! How about showing the guy at least a little respect?

High Caliper Growing Systems, Root Control Inc, is the company he told me to call. I'll be ordering at least 100 #5 smart pots, so I should be able to get a nice discount... hopefully getting them around $2.50 a piece, as opposed to $4 being the cheapest I've found on the net.

In that case you should know that I ran a large grow op for many years till I decided to go small. But I don't agree that size matters that much when it comes to growing a plant. larger just means more work, same things you're doing. Talking about my garden was his way of trying to belittle me because he's a jerk, end of story.

On the actual subject, here's something that I've been thinking about since seeing this thread. People in coco tend to water their plants a lot more than most mediums in hempy. If you're going to be watering once a day I think it will kind of defeat the purpose of hempy.

For me, coco is an insurance policy in case something goes wrong. It can't be over-watered, and will hold moisture for a while depending on the root mass...

its basically the same thing as the landscape fabric. but yeh, non woven. plenty of air gets in with no issue, and the roots poke out the side of the bag before they are air pruned.

at least in MY experience. and cant really beat .50 a piece.

OH, and for some clarification, just to kinda give some background on me. This is not my first rodeo.. been doing this off and on for 15 years. My NORMAL method of growing is a 95 plant vertical octagon. I have much less room now, so trying to find different methods. I do my research before trying anything. Ive been a soil grower the whole time, and now experimenting with "hydro", passive and otherwise.

I've had nothing but good things to say about the wally bags. The plant i have in it couldnt be better. When lights come on, ill go snap a few pics of her in flower. shes a monster for her age. Super sticky already and really dark green. Ive had less problems with her, then the rest of my plants honestly.

The frequency of my watering depends on the root mass... What I like to do is water daily. To do this with a plant that has been recently transplanted, I use a digital timer so I can run my drippers for as little as 1 minute. Currently I'm running several different strains, 5 weeks flowering, all of them drinking at different rates... so they just get 1-2 15 minute feeds depending on what's left in the saucers under the pots, and I add a little to the pots that are light. I don't need to water the light pots daily... Just gotta add another 1/2 gal or so a week to keep them heavy.

You might say if I'm watering daily, why use coco? Like I said, the insurance policy... If a dripper gets clogged or I'm out of town and the rez runs low, there's time to catch the problem. The other benefit of coco is size. I buy compressed botanicare blocks. Much easier to bring home, or out to the woods...
