ok I checked It again run off is at 3200 ppm I know this is a super soil but it maybe a little too super!:chin:
I don't know that I've ever checked the runoff from a soil grow like that and only pH. While I have not used that recipe it is tried and true and going in a book on organic growing by The REv...aka Rolanterroy from Kingdom Organic Seeds. He's got a publisher lined up and ready to go. Also I'm helping REv get his beans onto SeedBay in the next few weeks.

Actually the book has the formula with some feather meal now and the spikes are tweaked slightly. For his grows it's mostly recycled soil, compost and worm casting type stuff though.

New kids on water only..........about ten days in new pots of recycled soil from rooted cut. I don't use a ph meter, and I don't test anything except the dried flowers. This is easy if you just let it be.

Thanks to all that have added to this thread, I am going to learn the just add water method with a lil help from my friends here on ICmag. I have been doin great with ebb n flo coco with cns17 but am ready to learn how the old schoolers do. What would be a good mix for moms? I have some very solid genetics that need to be kept more than one way so there is no chance of a loss. Thanks to all. Karma, One Love

Good Question.

How do you guys tent to your moms?

Were you following the formula i posted of REv's to the letter or not? Just wanting to know how what you were doing might be different if at all.

not to the letter if I have my own mix thats simular it's lc#1 mix with some of stuff added high N bat guano ,p bat guano, k-mag, DE, azomite, soft rock. I guess what I was saying is dont have as much stuff added as Rev's mix and my run off is still hella high so no one checks there run off with a just add water mix?

DAMN cheeze!

holy shit are those all 5 gallon?
Got the pots for free..came from Holland. They look like 4 gallon pots..weird.
I plant 2 to 4 clones per pot and the ones that overtake the others win. Faster to get terminal budding sights if ya' know what I mean.

I chatted with REv a bit to make sure before I said anything and figured I'd just post his response. His first sentence was where I was gonna head...
Well, before the microbial life gets set up (reaches equilibrium) the minerals will leach out. Now keep in mind a few things...
First of all, I don't flush ever at all, and all my runoff is caught in a tray and gets sucked back up by the plant.
Second, he needs to cook that soil for like 10 days or 2 weeks with it moist while he turns it over a few times. This will help give the microbeasties a head start on all the raw organic matter. You do not plant directly into this soil. This is the same soil mix that the male SHbx2 is in at 4' tall in a 5" container.
Third and probably most important, as long as you are just adding (pure) water, you don't need to care about any ppm or pH cuz the microbial life balances it all out.
I bolded the part about this mix being the one used for the plant in the pic I posted. The other thing he said that's important that I neglected to mention before is this is not a starter mix for seeds or freshly rooted clones.

Nice to see that he doesn't flush - I'm thinking that the idea of runoff in organic soil is what causes a huge amount of problems regarding shortages. Mag in particular is prone to leaching out, according to information on the k-mag site. My first grow I was freaked by what I thought were high runoff readings, and when I flushed it only got worse fast - into pale leaves, mag shortage symptoms

Regarding runoff testing, I have tested. It is waay high off of my new uncooked amended soil. However it correlates with a chart I've seen bouncing around that shows a reading of 6 to 8 ec as being high fertility. When I show a reading of 4 or lower they are showing the beginnings of deficiency. I am testing the first water to leave the pot. They look great under 8. A clone I have with haze like leaves (a cheese) has trouble with it when it reads over 8.
They crash fast, but as long as they get potted up they are happy. I must be running off of the ewc for the most part.

Looking forward to the next round with more prepared, recycled soil.

I just wanted to chime in on the soil mix. I'm using a slightly modified version of the REv's soil recipe, but i'm having to start my soil recycling program again. This mix works very well and i have a few pics of plants grown in this soil.

Can i post pictures here?

hey thanks man thanks for the info, the problem I was having was the leaves were burning up I figured out it was the alfalfa tea I was giving them before was just too strong so I flushed them and now there making a comeback I thought it was the new soil but I dont think so now, it had been composted for about a month and my plants are almost four feet tall now .

Howdy Strain Man :) The cooking time for the soil is important and more so for plants which are sensitive to environments that have a lot of readily available nutrients. When the microbes lock up some of the food, then it's ready to go. :D If you are running plants that are sensitive, then the might get a little leaf twist/crinkle when first put into this mix, but i'm guessing that after recycling it a time or two, that the micro life will have things balanced out.
