R.O. water and organics

I use RO water throughout my grow.... Just know that you will have to supplement your water with Cal/Mag from veg til about 1/2 way into flower or you will get deficiencies. I like that there isn't chlorine or other variables in the water that I would have to address before giving it to my plants, it just gets pretty pricey having to go to the grocery store for water every 2-3 days because we don't have our own system at home. My plants sure love it!!

Thanks for the reply smokesalot. Yeah I got my own filter after getting tired of five gallons at a time from the store. Currently using it with my coco grows with cal/mag added.
I'm going to give the organic thing a try so I don't want to add cal/mag. I don't really want to add anything to my water except an occasional tea.

i read the dolomite lime is supposed to add cal and mg needed for your plants. if its in your soil, if your going organics im sure it would be. ive also read that dolomite limes cal and mg are not available for months after its applied to the soil (i have no clue how that works). on the same note, ive been told to never use ro water unless your tap is uber fucked. how fucked is uber fucked? beats me. so i guess im as confused as you regarding ro water in organics.... sorry lol

i guess the question for me would be, do you add cal mg, in the beginning of your grow, even if you have dolomite lime in the soil?

I'm really behind the deal of collecting rain water so it was interesting with the oldest established nursery in Portland (circa 1909) began promoting and selling water collection systems.

In Western Oregon? Are you f*cking kidding me? A 'water collection system' - like some empty paint buckets? - what else could they be talking about?

LMAO

Well the idea behind going organic is to cut down on labor. Don't feel like lugging water jugs around anymore. Besides I'd be collecting snow before too long.

You can basically use almost any water in a good organic soil. I wouldn't use a water treated with chlorine or flouride....or one that had serious ph issues like Verdant Green's water source.
But I would use rain water, well water, pond, river, stream, and tap water that isn't stinking of chemicals from the local treatment plant.

I have well water, it's just very hard! EC 1.00
I guess I'll just have to experiment and try both, well water and ro water.
Yeah I know I could mix the two together but I'm trying to be lazy.

it was illegal here to catch rain water for a hundred years until they realized 97% of the rain either evaporates, or is used by native plants. so youre not stealing it from the down stream folks after all. i want to catch rain water, but i know it will be somewhat toxic, maybe catch it then filter?

So, back to the original post:

anybody want to chime in on how to use RO water with organic soils? How do you adjust for cal/mag without killing the microherd? Epsom salt and dolomite lime?

Thanks.

Like Capt. Cheeze said RO is perfectly fine without adjustement. I use it from start to finish but my grows are very small so it doesn't hit the wallet that bad. Plus I only drink RO because I am a water snob so it is always on hand.
