Continual Grow Tent Problems: Need Help

I am running a continual grow op with a two tent set up. First tent is a 3x5x7 with a 8 bulb T5 set up. Second tent is a 5x5x7 with a 1000 HPS set up. Veg in the T5, flower in the 1000. Flowering is taking 10 weeks. I do not want to change phenos, I have some very good genetics going. Huge producers that took me a while to find.

Here is the problem... By the time my plants hit the 1000 watt tent, they are too damn big. I have supercropped like crazy, cut them back a lot, and they are still monsters by the time they hit the flowering tent. I use a trellis net, bend the crap out of them until I can't reach into the center anymore due to over abundance of buds, and still, by week 6 they are only about 6 inches from the light with no room to spare. If these things were allowed to grow upright they would easily be over 7 feet tall by now.

What can I do aside from searching for a new strain?

How do you guys run two tent ops?

I should also mention that I hold off rooting the clones as long as possible, usually 3 weeks.

Top your plants more aggressively in veg and the plants will get bushier. That may help keep them shorter for you.

I would use half of the veg tent for moms, and put in an adjustable shelf for clones to root then veg on. That way you can hold off on taking clones until you are ready to, instead of when you have to.

Be happy you don't have a PVC polluted tent like I had. Lost over 30 seeds in the tent because the 600w heat made the tent release gasses that killed the plants in less then 2 weeks. Good luck, always make sure the tent is not made in china! :)

Won't matter to me if they do, I only have an 8 foot ceiling to work with.

Try 12/12 from clones...Add a week of veg if that run finishes too small.

Interesting, but won't they start to flower once they start to root?

Have you tried shorter veg times?

Not possible, I have to wait for the plants in the flowering tent to finish, they take 10 weeks, and probably could go a little longer.

Trust me, I am cropping the shit out of these things, they are still blowing up.

so you are not keeping a mother plant? you take cuttings 3 weeks into flowering?

No mother plant, I clone the plants right before they go into the flowering tent. This is an interesting thought though. I could possibly clone the veg plants and leave them as mothers, then immediately start the new clones in flowering, or like another post said, veg them for a week or two.

This ties into the above post. Probably the best option at this point.

Only other thing I can think of is to add another flowering tent and light, but I really don't want to do that.

That sucks! I stick with Secret Jardin, best tents out there IMO.

Thanks all, appreciate the answers.

Use a graduated pot system . Let the plant get root bound befor transplanting .

You coud stunt your clones with a bloom fertilizer . Saw it in a book the guy used bloom ferts on his clones , and he could keep his clones from growing leafy growth but they would still grow roots . Peace and good luck

well if your having that much trouble all you can do is keep fighting it until you start up again and use a shorter veg period or change strains to something that wont be out of control for your environment...you also never said what strain you are running so we can have some more insight....seems like your running a pure sativa if its still stretching 10 weeks into flower...i would go with more of a sativa leaning hybrid if thats what kinda stone your after....but yeah you can do as you said take some clones turn those into some nice small bushy mothers take a bunch of clones let them root, transplant those babys into your final size pot let veg a couple weeks then flower. if your running strong lights you can expect some smaller plants but with less but bigger buds...

I agree with what the others are saying about keeping moms. I used to do what you are doing and had the same problem with height. Now, with moms, I can just take the cuts 3-4 weeks before harvest. 2 weeks to get roots, 2 weeks in party cups, then transplanted, placed into the flowering space with a veg cycle for a few more days to get adjusted to the new pots, then....flip em!

you could grow perpetual. flower one clone every week and harvest one plant every week.
Hard to mix all the different nuts fore different stages but heh you get to harvest every week instead of every 10th week

I grow in tents as well. I have 3. Seems like you are growing something with some stretchy genetics. Wht you can do to counter this is putting them into flowering a couple or 3 weeks earlier then you normally do. This will also let the plants fill out ther alloted slot with out lowering your yields.

Have you thought about turning off 2 of your T5's? Perhaps they're getting 'too much' light during veg which is leading to explosive growth.

I use 4 T5 3' bulbs for vegging and find it works great for my setup.

Just a thought...

1. just leave them in the cloning tray an extra two weeks. they might grow an inch or two, but not the 6-12'' they would if you potted them right away.

2. grow less plants. lst or scrog/stake the plants to cover the area. so, say you are veging 10 plants right now, just do 6-7. i know when i do a 2 month veg, 4 plants max for me in a 5x6 ft area under 600w+400w hps. one month veg 9-12 plants work well.
