250w average yeilds.

I have to start by apologizing, becuase i'm sure there are dozen of this exact same thread all over the place. I seem to be very dumb when it comes to searching this site, and couldn't find anything. anyway, i've been running a 250w for a couple years now in a small little closet with some decent success. i was just wondering what other folks running strait 250 watters are yeilding on average. it seems like i can pull about 100 grams from my bio-bizz soils and nutes on average. i only run one to three plants a time. is this an exceptable harvest or should i be striving for more?:thank you: here's some pics of my lady. there's lots more of her you don't see in these pics.

seems about average, you could be pulling a tad more but that will come from changing up your strains or style of grow etc. maybe do a sog with a bunch of single stem clones under the 250 and see what your pull that way..or supercrop your plants. whats the strain your growing in the pics>? looks pretty dank

People strive for the 1 gram per watt harvest as a standard of efficiency, so for a 250w that's around 8 ounces. Some people report a 1.5 gram per watt harvest. Keep in mind veg time, strain, and grow method all factor in. Hydro tends to yield better. I haven't nearly reached 1gpw yet due to bad planning and laziness, but I'm confident I will with modular scrog and DWC. VerdantGreen has a great journal with soil recipes where he gets a great yield with soil:

4 one ounce plants in one gallon pots no prob, maybe 1.5 oz. the one gallon is gonna restrict height, good for a 250w !!

holy crap that would be great to get a g per watt. thats just some random bag seed found in some half way decent bud. i've been thinking about going sog, but i want to keep my plant numbers down do to law and what not. what a typical yeild for like a 2 gal pot?

I average 7-9oz depending on strain. Hoping for more next go around... 12+week veg 8 plants Lst and 3 gallons. I can't wait. 250's are awesome if you use its advantages.

i'm still trying to get my system down pat, but i'm thinking i need to try some different growing techniques. i think keeping thing short is key. my current plant is about 4 foot tall, and light penatration is weak. i think i'm going sog next go around.

You can't get the light penetration from the 250 like you can from the bigger bulbs. With a 4 foot tall plant the bottom 3 feet is probably not seeing much light. keep things super short, my lst'd plants are all still under a foot in total height from soil level to canopy when they go to flower, even after the extended length veg.

lst'ing is the way to go brother for a 250hps...that is what I use in my 1.8'x2' chamber in my cab. I think some people never try lst'ing cause they are afraid they might break stems or overstress their girls...nonsense! Some thick twine & small weights are all you need. I get an average of 4 1/2 to 5 oz. per harvest doing two jacks cleaner 2's and one C99, in two gallon square pots.
It also allows one to veg for a bit longer. Lots of 250 growers don't get the yield they are after cause they veg 2-3 weeks (or less) & don't lst or scrog, while doing it in tiny 1 gallon or 1/2 gallon pots. One ounce per gallon of soil is a good rule of thumb. A good yielder, 4-6 weeks veg, 2 gallon pots.....you WILL get outstanding results, trust me.

I SoG under a 250, and I (like everybody else) find yield to be heavily strain dependent. If I understand that you've only grown one strain, it's hard to judge the efficiency of your setup (especially if it's bagseed, and you don't have a bunch of history to work with). I have a few strains that yield 100 grams/harvest, and others that could double or even triple that amount. If you get some extra coin and time, get a known few cheap and known big yielding seeds and give 'em a couple runs to see if they easily outdistance what you're used to.

I'll also echo what growingcrazy said above me, that 4 feet is probably a bit too tall for the light penetration you're going to get from a 250, and you'd probably be better served by getting it down to 2-3 feet.

i been running a 250w for a lil bit now. so far my largest harvest has been with a 18L tub converted into a 6 site DWC while using scrog. that yielded 5.5oz, not bad for a bunch of bagseeds! now im using 2L bottles converted into hemp buckets and gunna be growing a perpetual SOG. this looks like it will be more productive, but still setting all my plants up.

from my last run I got 118g from 4 blue cheese ladys. soil, biobizz and lst. they veged for 4 weeks. I was quite happy with that. Some of it is still curing.. hmmmm

Damn you get eight 3 gallon pots under a 250? Are they square pots? I am lucky to get 5 or 6 in my space, then again it's only a 2'X3' area. (I use dual 150 hps under a single reflector, DIY FTW)

I agree with all the above posters, try to keep the plants around 2 feet high max, I top my plants in veg then tie them down to try to keep an even canopy. Usually have 8-10 tops per plant and average around 2-3 OZ's per 3 gallon container. I also keep the light within 8 inches or so of the tops (if heat is an issue, fix the problem). This is in organic amended soil that takes very little extra nutrients in the flower stage.

SoG method also works well but I have plant limits so I try to grow fewer plants that yield more.

If you use SoG, try to run clones and put them in one gallon containers after a few days of rooting in veg when they are around 4 inches tall. Depending on the strain they will double or triple in height by the end of flower with yields between 1/2 OZ to and OZ each. A lot of people try for 9 plants in 4 inch pots per square foot, but those are pretty small for soil grows. You can fit less per square foot in the gallon pots but they usually wont be rootbound by the end of flower.

Hey man,
Yeah id agree with an average of 8oz with an efficient Hydro system & a 250w HID.
Ever thought about ScrOG-(Screen Of Green) , Check it out, If you really wanna increase/max out' your yield, then a ScrOG is an ideal option in your situation with a 250w in a small cupboard.
This Grow was done with a 250w in a Small Cupboard, Yield was over 12Oz of primo. Nivarna Ice ScrOG (2 plants-or was it 1?):

LST(Low Stress Training) is another one to consider, same idea as the ScrOG but without the screen. Training the plant this way brings lower Budsites that normally get little penetrative light into play & making them Cola's in their own right. A Forest/Screen of Donky Dick sized Colas is the aim of the game. Might be worth you checking out the Modular Scrog threads that are knocking about too. A Scrog is Ideal for small spaces & will enable you to get over 1gpw, which i do regulary. Couldnt forget the ScrOG, it really is very efficient. Good Luck! ;)

On my last run with a 250 i put in 4 plants 2 very small clones and 2 topped plants, had the big 2 under the light until hatrvest then moved the smaller ones under and chopped a couple of weeks later. End up with about 6 oz all in. usually run 2 plants get about 2 to 2.5 oz per plant.

dunno how i got maybe 1.5oz from 6 plants in a 2x2 tent with a 250 with 3gal grow bags using scrog method(removed screen 1/2way through flower)....makes no sense how i go tthat low of yeild.........plants didnt show any nutrient defs or anything i dont know what it is .....hopefully this grow im doing now should yeild 7g-14g per plant going for 6 in hydro 12 in soil in 6"x12" pots in this tent if i dont yeild 7g atleast per plant ill be pissed.......

I use regular 3 gallon buckets(basically a short 5 gallon) i have a 30"x30" flower chamber. I also use a 28"x28" DIY batwing/air cooler hood, it has treated me well so far.

Currently running 6 buckets on this grow to see how it does.

Here is a photo of a flower room at 21 days from flip.
