What's new

harvest soon...but when??

hey guys, i was looking for a little help.
these are NOT my first plants, nor my first harvest, but it IS my first time doing it by myself. i know the things your supposed to look for in a ripe plant (trichome color, pistol hair change), and ive been studying my plants close. someone on the forum said look for claraynx size...im not sure what that means.
3 of the plants started flowering maybe 3 weeks before the other 5. i dont know the strain of either of them.
the first 3 plants are getting close...2 of them still have pretty white pistol hair, one is turning purple but only at the tippy top as you can see in my pictures. they have about 40% clear, 58% cloudy, and 2% amber.
i dont want to premature harvest and i dont want to overripe harvest. i honestly wouldnt mind keeping them in the ground for as long as possible to let the buds fatten up, some of them are still pretty small.
i appreciate any and all comments, and ill try to update with pictures in a couple days. :thank you:

Lazyman is right. Wait about 10 days and recheck them. Dependng on strain u may have another 4 to 5 days to go. Take pics in 10 days and then again at 14. U will see noticeable changes as things ripen fully. U can also harvest the plant more then once. Chop the top half when done and let the bottom half continue to ripen. I do this a lot it gives me more harvest. Lower buds will then receive enough light to plump up and mature! Good luck to ya!!

so i listened to everyone's advice and waited. ive got a brand spankin new update with some new pictures.
once again, i dont know the strain of any of these, but 3 are just about done i think. let me know what you think.
the first couple shots of the purpleish-looking one has about 20% amber. i think it needs to be pulled in the next 2-3 days.
the other two, while they don't have as big of buds (which im disapointed by), have about 40-45% amber. which i think means they need to be pulled tonight. but let me know what you think.

Probably, this isn't the answer you would prefer but I'd reiterate the advice given the first time. Wait two weeks (if you have them) and reevaluate. My quick judgment based on these few pictures is that they need between 10 and 14 days. They're apparently still producing new pistils and will almost surely increase in potency and essential oils in the meantime.

In any case I like to strive for all cloudy gland heads with just a couple starting to go amber, but if the plant looks otherwise like it could use more time I'm gonna let it keep going unless weather, health or security necessitates otherwise. These look like they will reward your patience handsomely.

green-genes, thank you for the advice. but i have a concern.
like i said, there are a decent amount of amber trichomes that are appearing on the plants. i dont want to wait and make them overripe. is the fact that they're growing new pistols enough to ignore the 40-45% amber trichomes since there are new pistols and thus new trichomes growing?? i WAS going to pick tonight, but if people say not to, then i guess ill wait a little more...

are you sure they are amber and not cloudy? are you using a microscope?

id see how they look in a week.. if you see any of the trichs start to pop its a good time lol..

but with white pistils its crazy that miny trichs are amber.. in the pics they dont look amber..

im sure theyd be good now but if the weathers going to be good id let them go a bit longer..

Yea man i would be very suprised if there 40% amber now. The buds on them still look somewhat immature. Around how many weeks u think theyve been in flower?

thanks for the posts guys...
i took another look at what i cut off and maybe i was a little too heavy on the 40%. but not by much. 30-35% is about it.
diizz, im not completely sure when...im going to guess 8 weeks.
hash, we just had a crazy unseasonably warm and sunny weather (im in the upper midwest). 80's and sunny for like 6 straight days. but now the forcast says what we expect around here: high of low 60's, low of high 30's, partly sunny and spinkled with rain.
i'll let them go i guess for a couple more days since you guys say. i know its weird to think they're amber with white hairs but thats what it is. i really do appreciate all the feedback, as i don't want to harvest early or late.
