Back in December I made two tubs of cannabutter. I used one up and forgot the other in my fridge until last week. I opened it up and there's two spots of mold on the top. One about a inch across the other maybe half a inch. I froze the butter and was wondering if Icut the top off with the mold can I still use the butter. Its really potent stuff so ill cry if I got to toss it. Tell me what you guys think. You can do it with cheese so why not cannabutter right? Haha

The parts of mold you see are probably only the spores and not the entire contamination.

If you're not a mycologist and cannot identify the mold, then you really don't know how safe it is or what it will do in your body. That being said, you can do what you said with cheese or anything else because you have an immune system.

What if I remove the portions with the spores and then recook the butter. Think that would kill any contamination?

Maybe, but since you don't know what the contamination is, there's no way to know what temperature will kill it.

Personally, if I had health insurance I would just cook and eat the butter. Most of the time it's safe.

cut off the worst and pasteurise the rest - 15 minutes over 70c and risk it... Pasteurising is gonna kill most stuff which will either be the cooking process or heating it and maintaining that sort of temp...

cooking something thats started to go bad can kill the active organisms in the sample, but will do little to get rid of the nasty byproducts that are left behind by an organisms presence.

Think of it like this, You can cook the bugs out.. but not the bugs waste.

There was a fellow that went to the university i graduated from, who decided it would be a good idea to eat 2 week old refridgerated chili.

ended up in hospital for quite awhile and nearly died.
