Started a new grow, i have had them under a 110 watt cfl unit but having just potted up have now put them under a 600 watt grolux but i am wondering if they will actually grow any faster under this seeing how with the cfl i could keep them an inch or 2 away, space is now a bit of an issue but i could still keep 6 under the cfl, before i have always moved straight to the bigger light.
I am in soil btw and are now 3.5 weeks old.

Yes, the HID will veg them faster. As efficient growth rate as with a cfl? Maybe, probably not, but faster growth yes.

BTW, LED is GREAT for vegging. Works great for flowering too, but its a strong, efficient vegging light.

if your 600w is just for flowering, and u have a seperate vegg, i'd use about half to 2/3's the power...8 t5 bulbs @54w would give you 428 watt vegg. a 400 mh also works well in preparing plants for the mighty 600 !!!

I would put the plants as soon as possible with the 600W but would keep the light away to reduce stress.
You don't want to shock the plants with overwhelming light intensity compared to what they got used to.

On my current grow for instance I put the light at 70cm away from the plants since they sprouted and moved the light closer over the course of a month to 25-30cm.
Using a 400W (will move to 600W as soon as temps permit).
Considering you rock a 600W add 15cm to my measurements.

When they get enough light yet don't get shocked they grow the quickest.

Good luck :)
