its looking very nice man suscribed, hey how you like your ph meter

Hey gus738,

Thx man, I'm really attached to that pH meter. It's been a few years since I've had it and the original probe still calibrates perfectly. Cory at Berkeley Indoor Garden recommended it to me, and she was right on!

Hey wiz, can i get a better look ...upskirt shot of the system.

that would be stellar!

thanks dude.

Anything 4 u, my friend! The three drains in each set of boxes are connected by a 3/4" elbow and two Tees.

After the last tee, the drain tubes make a semi-loop and go into the reservoir. Each set of boxes has it's own drain tube.

The double set of tubing in the lower center is half inch tubing going to and from the chiller. The single tube coming out at the top of the pic is the feedline.

The boxes sit on top of empty 5 gallon buckets. Thats it!

This is what the plants look like today. They perked up after the foliar feed yesterday. EC is about 1.6, pH 5.7, reservoir temp 69F, room temp w/ lights on 72F, 69F off.

The fan leaves are getting pretty big. I almost want to try the Hi Yield Defoiliation technique. Maybe half lollipopped & half defoliation, but I'd like to to finish that dammed 90 page thread first.

Defoliation: Hi-Yield Technique Thread

Oh noes, I have pests in the room!

My hydrostore guy told me they're thundercats. They pollute your bud with hair. To get rid of them, he said to spray them with tunafish oil. It didn't work...they're back for more. That guy's an idiot!

To do the hi-defoliation you have to maintain the defoliation through out the grow. Meaning you should of already started... Just hit the "fluff" on the bottom that not really getting light. Or lollipop'em!! Nice setup btw...

Neo 420,

Ya ur right. Looks like defoliation is supposed to start when the plant is much smaller. Impulsive moves on my part get me nowheres so I'll just stick to the original plan & lollipop.

While you were away...

While you were away...

A few leaves have been found with parts missing.

Apparently my cat wants to defoliate...sigh.:cathug:

The plan is to flower on Saturday. Also, the room is gonna get it's first real visitor this weekend. This will be the 3rd visitor in 13 years. So maybe I'll hang extra lights and make it look nice.

Day 28 Veg...Flower!!

Day 28 Veg...Flower!!

Today's the big day...the plants are healthy & vigorous, the leaves are green & vibrant, and the roots are rapidly expanding in the bubblers. We're ready for flower! :jump:

The pH has been slowing creeping up the last couple days, from 5.7 to 6.0. The plants have been drinking a lot. They really like the EC at 1.6. (800ppm @ .5 conversion/1120ppm @.7 conversion)

Topped off with RO, added about .5 EC CalMag, just a touch of Cannazyme, and some Lucas to bring it up to about 1.5 EC in the res. The nutes brought the pH down to 5.6.

Root development is starting to accelerate. Fan leaves are getting bigger than my hand. Stalks are getting real thick too. The plants are about 16" tall.

I redid the dripline again today. I'm still leery of the soft black tubing, even w/ the Hydrofarm marking on it. This time I used hard polytubing, a punch tool, and some straight couplings. Much easier with the proper tools. It leaks slightly but it's all good...at least no offgassing worries.

I also removed the grill from the AC and applied black tape to the foam interior to make it a little more lightproof.

The lights are on at the same time now...from 9pm to 9am. This gives me time to check them b4 I go to work. The CO2 timer was adjusted to 3 min on 3x daily.

Still running just 1 AC unit w/ the other in reserve if needed. It's running 74-75F w/ 2 unshielded reflectors.

The room had a visitor today. A friend who is an AC & electrical pro. He says he can hookup the room w/ 240v for just the cost of parts. I'm thrilled!

Everything seems ok!! You rock'n it!!

Ya, I think things are coming along just fine. This cut has really suprised me with it's vigor... special thx 2 my friend J who supplied me w/ this super nice cut of Blue Dream!

Day 3 Flower - Big moves...lil steps

Day 3 Flower - Big moves...lil steps

The plants are going nuts!:good: They're sucking up nutrient solution at an astounding rate. Think it's the CO2 accelerating the transpiration? I also noticed that the AC is dripping a lot more waste water into a 5 gallon bucket. The temp at canopy level is about 74-75F, RH is 64%.

The structure of the plants seems to be fairly bushy. I plan on taking some new cuts in a day or so, and continually trimming a shoot or two everyday. If I remove some fans & shoots, maybe it'll slow down the stretch.

Here's the R side of the room. It's actually a few inches shorter than the L side.

The roots are really sucking up nutrients. This is what they look like at this stage...

Gotta refill the rez tonite w/ RO. I'm using Lucas but w/ AN Bloom & Micro, leftover from a couple years ago. I'd like to give a small dose of Bud Blood or Bud Ignitor in addition to the Canazyme & Rhizo already in the rez. The EC right now is about 1.4/700ppm(.5)/980ppm(.7). Target EC is about 1.6/800ppm(.5)/1120ppm(.7) Also running a little HG DripClean, pH is about 5.9

I'm considering re-working the watering schedule so that it waters a lot less during flowering. Maybe 3 min/4 hrs...I think thats what Blunt69 used at one time. Slightly reduced watering might be a positive stress for flowering according to this informative article.

This bad cat is officially banned from the gro.

Day 5 Flower - Cloning on a Budget

Day 5 Flower - Cloning on a Budget

Great news!! I got prescreened for the low income electricity program at South Ca Edison, and qualified. So that cuts my powerbill by 20%. The funny thing is I didn't even have to lie about my income. I don't know whether to laugh or cry...

The last couple days have been spent doing some cloning & light trimming. The larger shoots were used to make clones. The clones are being held in a Rubbermaid storage box.

Normally I use 1.5" individually wrapped rockwool cubes, but this time I used a sheet of 2" rockwool cubes. I like the 2" inchers better...more room for root growth & no wierd orange fungi from the paper wrapping material. This is what they looked like yesterday.

Today after the 2nd batch...one in every hole. Soaked the cubes real quick in 100ppm of nutes and soaked the cuts in Dip n Grow. Then the cuts were sprayed w/ diluted Vitagrow Antiwilt. I normally take twice as many cuts as what I need, and keep the best/fastest 50%.

The main reservoir is sooo stable it's boring. Was gonna add Blood Bud, but I found a sample of Bud Start laying around. It looks exactly the same as Bud Blood w/ the same % of P and K, same color, but free!!

EC is 1.5, (about 980ppm at .7) pH 5.7. Temps 75F, rH 60%. Ready for some Big Bud in the next few days I think...wonder if I can find some free samples... :dance013:

Thx Chaco...I hafta admit that the AC design is far from perfect. It's dripping a lot more into the room than I thought, about 2 gallons daily. I never noticed it before cuz the floor was slanted so that it dripped outside. I have an idea for a tray to catch the runoff tho...

Day 9 Flower - Is it hot in here...or is it jus me?

Day 9 Flower - Is it hot in here...or is it jus me?

Hey IC Maggers,

It was 108F today in sunny so ca!. Luckily my apt has central AC so it's comfortable and just as importantly provides a stable baseline environment for my main AC units to work in. The temp sensor was moved to the top of the canopy to give a more accurate readout of room temperature.

Can't believe time is passing by so quick. The plants are growing fast now. I've pruned twice, and will need to to do it again soon. The canopy looks like this now...

The above pics are the left side, middle area, and right side. The middle is starting to fill in, the leaves are touching already. I wired up all the weakest branches yesterday. However it still needs lots of work. It's about 24-26" tall now.

I saw the first gnats today. Actually I saw one about 3 days ago, but it ended up dead on the white plastic. But now I have a few..so I'll hit them w/ Gnatrol WDG, a bactera which kills larvae. I also have a couple sticky traps laying yellow side up on the tray surface to help catch adults.

This is the underside of the canopy...needs lots of work. But since this is the first time through, I'm gonna go light on pruning instead of risking going overboard.

Big Bud liquid was added today. The starting EC was 1.3, 900ppm@.7, 650ppm@.5. After the Big Bud, the rez was at 1.5 EC, 1050ppm@.7, 750ppm@.5.
pH dropped a little to 5.6.

More to come soon! :blowbubbles:

Nice growth! How high up are you going to trim?

Hey Neo 420,

Ya, they are really taking off now. Originally I wanted to take the bottom 50% off. But there's a few quality shoots that have made it to the top of the canopy already. So those I might leave alone.

Day 12 Flower -

Day 12 Flower -

The canopy is growing strong...the average is 24-26 inches, but the tallest shoots are approaching the 30 inch mark. Here's how they looked last night. I tried to put up some trellis netting but it was a PIA and it kept getting in the way. So just a little plain cotton twine seems to give just the right amount of support. I'll add more later.

The reservoir is a pretty steady pH 5.7 The EC is about 1.4 about 980ppm (at .7) The nute breakdown is (estimate only)...

RO water...............10 ppm
GreenStay...........100 ppm
Lucas 8/16...........700 ppm
Big Bud................140 ppm
Cannazyme............30 ppm
TOTAL ...............980 ppm

Adding in one item at a time and measuring after 20 minutes. I think I'll just start premixing 2.5 gallon jugs, and adding those to the res instead. I also added some freshly brewed compost tea 2 days ago, but at an extremely diluted rate, about 1 gallon to 80 gallon ratio.

The first white hairs are showing up very clearly, and the first hints of bud formation are just starting. I think it should keep growing vertically till about the 3rd week.

It doesn't show up real clear on this CO2 test, but the purple line is halfway between 1000 and 2000 so aproximately 1500ppm CO2. The CO2 regulator is on a digital timer, 4 minutes on every 3 hours, 3x a day. The room is completely sealed so it doesn't take much to keep high CO2 levels. That's it for now!:)

Day 17 Flower -

Day 17 Flower -

Had a great time at the grow show this past weekend...got to talk to a lotta interesting people, met a few customers from the shop, and best of all, got lotsa free samples, yay!

But business is business, and after the show, I had my own show to attend to. It's already the 17th day of flowering! Went through and chopped away the undergrowth. It took nearly two hours. This is what they look like on Oct 3rd, day 15 after the chop.

I had tried to "rescue" the smallest shoots earlier by tying them up. What a waste of time...they still sucked, so I cut most of them off. The canopy looks like this now.

The buds are starting to form...

I noticed some minor yellowing on the fan leaves. I don't think the plants are as happy with the reduced watering schedule, so I moved them back to 15min on/3hrs. They were actually short a large amount of nutrient solution. The boxes absorbed over half the reservoir when I just let it drip for a while.

Added RO water, pH is slightly higher 5.9 to 6.0. PPMS are at 1120 at .7, and 800 at .5. EC was initially about 1.8 but has stabilized out at about 1.6. Nute temps are still pretty chilly at 69. The canopy top was too cool at 72, so I upped the AC Thermostat a couple degrees to 71.

The mix is about the same. Lucas 8/16 but this time I added some PK 13/14, which should be gone in just a few days. I also added 120 ml of Dr Repair iron supplement cuz I saw some yellow fans near the top of the canopy. I also sprayed w/ GreenStay 2.5ml/500ml and Saturator 30 ml/500ml when lights came on last night.

I lost my first tray of cuts due to carelessness/cheapness. I let the cuts sit in a very strong solution of dip n grow for almost 20 minutes. I sprayed them w/ old Antiwilt from 3 years ago that smelled awful, and the box was way too hot. They all fainted & died. So I'm trying again, on a smaller scale & with more discipline. Just sticking to my old established routine with a cooler environment & new cloning gels/sprays. We'll see what happens.
