do caterpillars stop eating at the chop?

I just found cats with ~2 weeks to go. If I chop early will they continue on consuming my tasty chopped buds? or do like mites and climb the stem and jump off? So far they are on 2 plants of 5.
I spent over 2 hrs picking them out yesterday.

I think know the answer, I just dont want to admit it...

After you harvest they will show their faces. They will be crawling out from everywhere. And you will probably have ten times as many as you imagined.

I am sure they like the moisture, and after harvest, it sends them looking for a new plant. Have fun stomping on them.

And make sure you dry with just the buds, no large branches, cuz the mold may follow.

I have never had the mold continue while drying, but keep the humidity/temp close to 50%/70deg.

No Mold for me, but Im in a fairly dry climate and things dry somewhat quickly.

After more reading and seeing the damage they do, I think Im gonna chop this afternoon and suck up the last 2 weeks or so on these plants. I would HATE to lose some of the dongs that are there and early is better than never.. I still have the 3 in this garden and a few more in another that show no sign of hitchikers yet.

Rysam, I made the same decision as you today; it had been 2 days since I was able to inspect my ladies, and within those 2 days that cats came a crawling. I killed off about 20-30, and harvested 2 of my 6 ladies. Cats are some nasty lil' buggers; I hate seeing their scat amongst my bud worst of all.

I have found live cats in buds long after the chop.

An area of discoloration on the surface of a bud is a good sign there is a cat in that flower.

I'm with el dub - last year I had cats crawling out of hanging colas a week after chop.

I saved a couple zips by carefully searching for the little burrowing holes they make, and then breaking buds up to get 'em out.

We just topped 5 of the 8 big plants.
The caterpillars were certainly getting a foothold, even in plants we didnt expect. Our efforts yesterday payed off though and we didnt find as many today as then. Im sure we missed a few but overall the buds look ok. The last 3 plants of another strain are untouched. I molested the hell out of them searching and came up empty handed which is a good thing because they have 3-4 weeks left and are by far the biggest 3 of the 8.

They add a definate tanginess to the weed when smoked. They have spent a week or more munching and shitting inside the branch. A few years ago, an obsessive friend of mine that water cures his weed, showed me the results of an analasys of the soak water off of his outdoor weed. His wife works at the Dept. of Ag and could get it tested. The water contained loads of bug shit and puke, along with numerous bug carcasses, legs, wings, sulfur dioxide, bird poop and a plethera,(36) of other taste inhancing ingedients just waiting to be put in the grinder and consumed..

I've smoked my share of mex. I'm sure a bit of caterpillar shit is minor compared to the funk that is in that. Hell, we found what was left of a pressed lizard one time when we cracked open a brick.
