Save your stems!!!

A friend of mine gave me a ziploc bag full of stems so i could make some iso for him.. usually when I make iso I use vaped bud + a little kief so I wasn't really expecting a very good product from his mass of stems. It didn't yield very much compared to when I use vaped bud... maybe about 4-6 good sized bong rips was recovered

All I can say is this stuff blew me away, from now on i'll be saving all my stems and making iso-hash with them!!

Take a glass jar with a tight seal and cover the product you are extracting with >90%isopropyl alcohol.. shake like a madman for about 1-2 minutes, then pour the mixture through a coffee filter and into a pyrex baking dish, let it dry thoroughly, scrape it up with a razor blade then enjoy!!

I wouldn't recommend trying to speed up the drying process as iso is very flammable. I'd also let the stuff dry outdoors/in a garage if at all possible.

iso from vaped bud doesn't taste the greatest either... trimmings are ideal, but for those looking to stretch their supply it can't be beat

i make iso hash with my stems everytime my collection gets big enough. you can take all those worthless stems and make some powerful hash. it works so damn well.

Yes you could use everclear.
I don't chop the stems up, most (if not all) of the thc will be contained on the outside of the stems so it is not needed, just throw em in a mason jar and shake like mad for a couple minutes

wow, wash for 1-2 minutes? Really? I thought 45 seconds max if using 91% iso. Maybe longer if using 70%, though...

'Who Stole The Isopropyl Alcohol' - is the name of that great tune Billy Zane dances to on the yacht in Dead Calm.

Very cool song and scene.

Thanks for the useful info :)

Would it make any difference to use 99% pure Isopropyl Alcohol compared to the 90% bottles etc?

99% improves the extraction quality by reducing the water solubles extracted.

We always extract the stems, but usually make a topical with it, because the demand for topical outstrips the supply, and it makes a killer topical.

Smoked, I find it less tasty than bud or leaf oil, and with less head effect, but it provides stellar pain relief.

We chop our up in a hammer mill and sift out the fines for extraction, but as has been noted, the meds that we seek are on the outside, so for running small quantities, there is no need to do anything but soak the stems in a suitable solvent to dissolve the trichomes.

If after you extract with ISO (99%), you redissolve the oil in Everclear while hot and let it sit in the freezer a bit, some of the undesireable constituets will precipitate out and improve the flavor once you have decanted, filtered, and removed the Everclear also.

It is all good, the yield is just lower extracting stems than buds or leaf, and it has lower a THC ratio to CBDs and CBNs.

a tumbled (rock tumbler) quick extraction also produces a nicer looking, tasting and textural product.

Good idea sister woman! For stems, that would sure beat shaking and you certainly turn out some fine oil.
