Frost?

Hey what's up guys,

Up here in the Northeast it's starting to get a bit chilly...I was just wondering how much of a light frost can cannabis take?

I think it got to around 34-35 last night, and there was frost on the grass this morning.

Should I be worried? How much of a frost can cannabis take? I was told it can take a light frost, but to what extent?

When should I be harvesting at the latest? I was thinking Oct 10-13 area.

Thanks and K+ in advance for help!!

Last year i had the same question, still dont have a definite answer but last year i harvested the buds from a plant that was in a container and left it to stay alive with just its fans, i harvested the buds around mid october and checked the plant again around the beginning of november, at that point we had some light snow a few times and night time temps were dropping into the high 20's, the plant was alive, but it wasn't happy at all. leaves were curled and droppy but were defiantly still alive. Not sure if this helps but i thought i'd just share my experience.

Happy Harvest!

I averaged first frost for my area in the NE to somewhere between 10/13 and 10/20 using The Old Farmer's Almanac frost chart.

I'll pull 3/4 of my girls when I hear a real forecast near that first date and leave 1/4 out past the first frost as an experiment in frost-induced purpling (or any other cool color variations).

And if you don't have a frost by the full moon in October (22) you won't get one until November's full moon (21).

as a rule, only several consecutive hard frosts will kill, however cannabis slows growth quite a bit . . . and those dark nights/days don't help either, not to mention mold threat . . . past yrs have seen my experimental buds left attached keep growing, but I like those early harvests anyways

as late ripening buds tend to have big burnouts when they fade away. . . i like a no burnout smoke with long legs & stupefying stone, hehe

What lat. are you at bongcritter? I had to chop pretty early before, sept 28ish bud was still good. But like you, I definitely need all the time I can get, looking to make it at least to mid-Oct. Rainy season concerns me more than frost. Did get cold here too though, like 45?

I'm at 42 latitude...I am worried about the rain and cold also...Mold is becoming more of an issue I think for me right now

Im not sure all strains because i havent grown all, but of the many ive grown, a mature cannabis plant can handle heavy frost and light freezes with no harm at all.

Many time ive had plants survive several consecutive nights of 30 degrees. Ive also let weed stand in the field until mid november, with the last 2-3 weeks every night below 32 and the plants not exhibit damage, although growth is almost non existent.

Cannabis can handle the cold. Gentle with them when their cold, the trichs come off easier when cold, just like when you make hash.

All you can do is watch the weather for frost warnings. Cannabis can stand a light frost but heavier ones will wipe a crop out. It's best to harvest before any kind of frost just to be safe. I have to about mid October where I live. I'll probally get the rest of my plants about the first week to be safe.

I'm at 65 North and the season here started with a little frost and there were long hard frosts when the flowering started for non-auto plants and most of them survived. Early frost is the bad one, if your plants can hadle that, there are no reason why they can't handle little frost later!:) But I think here the plants are a bit better adapted to bad weather, so..
