small round seeds - likely genetics?

so i have some small, round seeds
curious if this indicates an indica strain
i have seen posts that say indica tend to be small, sativa bigger
was from a mixed seed pack, the roundness is noticeable compared to others

Impossible to guess from the look of the seeds. 'Sativa' seeds are usually smaller and shinyer, 'Indica' seeds larger with uneven surface, but these days most everything is a blend of the two.

thanks for the look and help, does give me a bit more info
sadly, i will never know on this particular seed, did pop a tap root but just wouldn't develop any further

very common trait of skunk #1 genetics to run....smaller....and darker...

a good bit of info, maybe it's tough to generalize, but some strains seem to have distinct seed traits
i don't think there was any pure skunk#1 in the mix, but could of course be in the recent ancestry

you probably won't know much until you grow them out. only really small dark seeds i've had were for sam skunkman's original haze x skunk #1 and that's sativa dom as far as i know, not indica. growing them out will give you a much better idea of subspecies dominance :D all the best

I have the same seed in a 10 pack, and they are the smallest beans i have seen.

^^^ thanks for the info, seems to be more small seed sativas from the experiences seen here
sadly, my small round seed didn't make it, popped and put out a tap root, but just wouldn't develop any further

Hard to say for sure, it really depends on the mother plant mostly because you never know who the daddy was for sure.

Judging purely from seed size and description I'd say a sativa or sativa influenced plant like a Skunk #1, Haze, or possible Mexican/Thai... who knows really just a guess

Ask yourself this question.

What did the bud it came from look, smell and smoke like?? There is at least 1/2 of your answer.

It is impossible to tell the genetics of a line from a seed!
Phenotypical variation between mother plants alone dictates this...

Hope this helps!

I agree with you 100% DocLeaf.

However, There must be SOME type of correlation between basic phenotypic expression seen in the seed and the basic genetic line from which the seed is derived, no?

By "basic genetic line" I'm inferring either a sativa or indica. I do realize that most cannabis now a days in a mixture of these two lines so again it may be impossible to tell.

I did notice that most of my sativa plants I've breed with have smaller darker seeds and most indica lines I've bred have larger lighter colored seeds and the crosses thereof I've seen something in the middle. This is just an observation and has no scientific basis what so ever. So correct me if I'm wrong.

i noticed this myself, but its not always the case. i recently got some purple pakistani chitrali, which are some of the darkest, smallest seeds i've ever seen.

so the answer to the op question, is you can't tell. pop them and find out, thats all part of growing.

yeah, this was a idle question, for the most part
thought i'd just toss it out there, i seem to see that sativa dominants to be somewhat more likely to produce a smaller round seed, but not enough to give any real guidance on your seed's genetics
