Crazy Idea - Worlds Largest Ebb and Flow

I just had an insane idea and wanted to see what you guys thing, and if it could actually work. What if one were to rig a SWIMMING POOL as an Ebb and Flow garden lol.

Picture this: throwing in a bunch of fish, lilly pads, and whatever the hell you need to make it organic rich water inside a big ass swimming pool. Then constructing a massive table above it. Then rig a fountain pump, some timers, etc and viola the biggest damn ebb and flow garden ever!

What problems do you guys see could arise and would it be possible to put the right kind of fish and shit in the water to keep plants alive?

you could also make a giant ice cube out of the pool water

Nah seriously.. it would be awesome but a waste of that beautiful pool if you ask me :)

Haha this is entirely theoretical guys. Just wondering if its remotely possible. Would be an awesome site to behold tho.

thats what I thought of fonzee.

as soon as you said biggest ebb/flow I knew you were talking about a pool, unless of course you've got some agri reservoir thats millions of gallons....

I say the oxygenation route with a floating pad would work better, kind of like a giant DWC.

I did ebb/flow and liked it, simple, but a floating DWC would be awesome because so long as your air pumps are in working order (and water temps) you'll have faster growth with crazy size potential... need some thick foam to float a big tree.

you could do DWC style and put fish in even, go aqua culture style, lower cost on nutes seeing as how thousands of gallons in a pool would take a few gallons at least.

6' diameter 24" deep kiddy pool 200gals covered in 2" foam board with wholes cut for the net pots = largest DWC I've ever seen.

This is my Next "genius project" I must replicate what you have described, any further explanation or pictures would be greatly appriciated!!! I amagine lots of air bubbles and ONE MASSIVE ROOT MASS now (how many plants did this set up have) Indica's or Sativas, and was it elivated off the floor?? I am So curious:tiphat:

Ha crazy idea.. dunno if it would work. But your idea reminded of a pool converted to a greenhouse.. It's really cool, you should check it out;

You need to watch the two videos, where they explain how the complicated system works, otherwise it looks like a confusing mess.

Lol that is a real mess no matter how you loot at it. I couldnt stand working in an environment that disorganized.

Hmmm...so DWC might be better? Only problem I could see is water temps.

Also, what primary consists in an aqua culture. Is there like a special type of fish?

The kiddy pool seems pretty manageable, even in doors. Hmmm...maybe Ill try this when I have some space. Imagine a 4x kiddy pool recirculating with a huge reservoir!

theres a good article about aquaculture and using the fish water for nutes in the sept/oct issue of urban garden. i was thinking about this too, as i have a 125 gallon tank and a 50 gal too, filled with african cichlids. the PH of their water is around 6.8 so a little high, but im sure its full of nitrogen and all that other good stuff.

OMG That is AMAZING! The whole time I was watching I was like... hmm what if this was all bud :)

yea that video is crazy holy shit...shows how richard lee is gonna pump out 50 packs a day....id imagine some kind of humidity problem maybe with all that water, they would need a shitload of circulation to kill the budrot, etc....

makes you wonder how the trends of growing will go.....right now 200 gal smartpots are the hot shit...maybe in a few years the hot shit will be outdoor aeroponic kiddie pool farming that creates 20 ft plants lol....

supposdly the Aztecs were the first big hydro growers.
they had big water pools with like reed beds or something
floating on top, sewage was chanled in.
and all done on an industrial scale.

Actually i just saw a special on nat geo, and what they did was they built rafts out of reeds and roots. These rafts were topped with a bit of soil from the bottom of the lake, and then floated out to the center of the water. Crops would grow on top of the rafts, their roots reaching through the rafts and down into the water.

check this video out. this guy has essentially spent years trying to find the perfect mix of fish and other stuff to grow insanely healthy cannabis plants. this seems like an extremely frustrating yet rewarding hobby.

it is kind of long but really interesting. Seriously LOOK HOW BIG THESE PLANTS GET!

no ebb and flo just continuous flow. NFT or DFT. that would work so good. Grow some fish for eating, or KOI for enjoyment. they make things to prevent the water from freezing.

If I had a pool, it would be a pond asap.

Steal all the manhole covers in NYC.

24" netpots dropped into the holes.

"Manure tea" is already flowing down there.......

I just did some research and downoaded a cool aquaponics movie on the pirate bay called "aquaponics made easy" and the guy said it is nearly impossible to use a swimming pool. This is because you have to keep a certain ratio of fish to grow beds. If you were to use an entire swimming pool you would need literally hundreds of yards of grow beds and thousands and thousands of fish.
