There are so many different setups for hydro its tough to give you a quick overview without knowing what you are looking to do.

TON OF INFO on Nutrients --->>> http://www.medicalmarijuanagrowbank.com/hydroponics/nutrients/

For a lot of good ideas and techniques concerning hydroponics.

I would recommend Coco Coir for ease of use and being able to hand water the medium if you cannot afford a drip system.

Simple nutrients are all a plant needs during veg, primarily Nitrogen based fertilizers. There's a lot of great companies like House and Garden, General Hydroponics, Canna, and more.

Dont get too caught up trying to run every fertilizer known to man, get the basics down first and keep your plants healthy.

theres a ton of info on nutrients on this site why spam to this other site........i hope you have talked over having your site name in your sig thats against rules fyi....and for nutrients i use floranova grow and bloom thats it...im having good results exept in late flower im thinking of going with some no nitrogen fert for last few weeks of ferted bloom....but other then that i love the floranova fairly cheap 28$ per liter which lasts a long while one grow and i barley touched the bottle...

You are most likely looking for something called the Lucas Formula. This can be used with 3 part gh nutes, or pbp, or floranova, or even maxibloom dry ferts. It was designed by a gentleman named Lucas, who you can find links to all over this site. Otherwise this address really sums it all up in one page.

Hope this helps!

I personally started off with maxibloom, then switched to floranova.. works great with dwc!

If you want cheap, then you want maxibloom. Its a dry nute mix, costed I think 5-6 bucks for a 3-4 lbs bag that will last you forever! The reason I switched was because of the chelating agent they use for maxi, it sits at the bottom of my dwc bucket and seems to play havoc with my airstones. That and mixing the powder proved to be somewhat frustrating, in comparison to using a syringe to suck up 8ml of floranova and squirt it into a gallon of water.

Lucas formula is a regiment in -how- to use nutrients safely, and in a generic manner that can be used with pretty much any strain. There are no Lucas made nutrients that I know of!

When I was using Maxi, I used it with one additive. RO water + 7g of maxibloom. I'd warm up with RO water before mixing, as it seemed to make the powder blend faster. The only additive that I used beyond the maxibloom was superthrive, and thats 1 drop per gallon. I'm on a very strict budget as well, so I can kinda see where you are coming from!

What I would do once a week!
Check the bucket, and dump it out.
Mix up a fresh batch nutrients (RO+7g of maxi)
Add the superthrive
Check the ph and lower it too 5.6
Splash a cup of h202 (hydrogen peroxide) into the bucket and swill it around (dump the h202, if some is left behind thats a-ok for dwc)
Refill the bucket with nutrient mix

During the week, top off with ph'ed ro water.

Everyone has their own strategy and approach.

I personally copied Pipedream, and I follow Lucas' approach as it is pretty well documented and proven by a broad spectrum of growers, both personal and commercial.

My water goes low after 2 days, given I was using a 4l container, so I check tds and compare it to where it was at the beginning, and check the ph. Top off with ph correct water, and then once a week I completely dump the bucket and start over again, this may be not the best approach, but it was working for me!

Thats how I started ,really cant fail unless you dont want to keep learning.
