What's new

havent turned my soil in a month! still good to use?

ive had a batch of soil on my side yard in a a big plastic tub. its got all the goodies in it per Rev's mix.

its just been sitting for a month. kinda forgot about it.... anyway, im needing to use it next week and wanted to know if there are any tell tale signs of anaerobic activity going on.

i turned it by shoveling it into a trash can and then back into the tub... the top was dry, but everything more then an inch down was nice and moist.. dark.

it smells like nice clean soil.....and looks super good! texture and color wise.

how do i know if its good? is the only way, to test it on a plant?

thanks

You are good to go. I am not 100% familiar with Rev's mix but I always let my soil mix sit out in the sun for about a month in a garbage can. Helps the micro beasty's develop.

probably will work fine... maybe try adding some ewc tea to it and some water.. turn it and let it sit and turn each day for another few days and then try using it.. probably will be awesome. Also soil is meant to have aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in it.. anaerobic bacteria is more danger in a hydroponic set up where it can damage the roots directly.. In soil the layers closer to the surface need a strong aerobic bacteria to be breaking down the organic matter, where lower down I believe the anaerobic bacteria help make the minerals and such available...

if it is how you describe moist dark and smelling good.. I don't know what you are even worried about as its probably going to work great! :)

hahahah thanks bros. im just worried cause i used this mix to early last time and fucked my girls over. it looks like some dank ass soil. im pretty excited to try it cooked. i have 4 tubs cooking and will only need one soon. ill use the rest each week following. i run a continual grow. i guess ill get this soil rotating as well. starting a new batch ever week to let sit for a month.

peace and

thanks again.

hey, do you guys water right after you transplant? ive to, and ive heard not to. i heard not to, to promote root exploration. and then i read to water quick because you can burn your roots in the new soil if its dry. my soil is fresh from the bag moist. what do you think? water or no? and by water i mean aact with ewc,LK,molasses, and trinity

i had soil sitting outside in a bin all winter, didn't turn it once and its perfect. the fungi appreciate me for not tilling that's for sure.

i transplanted a few testers to be sure its good to go. it looks and smells and feels like the best soil, or unsoil ive ever seen, smelled, or touched. cant wait to see how it performs!

you definitely want to water after transplant, try and do it gently but thoroughly with as little runoff as possible. it's this watering that helps get the roots in proper contact with the new soil and remove big airgaps etc.

as for turning etc i wouldnt worry as long as it doesnt smell bad. i do think your soil mix sounds hot though, although the rev knows his stuff so hey.

You are going to be just fine...

HOWEVER, if this soil was left to sit VERY wet and stayed overly moist, without ever drying out during this time period, you probably would smell a bit of decay and death as things would have suffocated, essentially. And you probably would have a bit of a anaerobic / caustic soil.

But from the sounds of things...you are just fine. In all reality, letting it sit like that has probably done it more good than harm...Get some vegetation in that mix!

So I put those struggling plants i had in this soil mix, and in 24 hours they have pulled an immediate 180! greening up and growing already!
